I know RTCW still has people playing it online. I don't know about SOF2 though. You can also get Enemy Territory as it has multiplayer and is free too. I would play ET over RTCW.

I never liked SoF or SoF2. I really felt they were garbage games that were an excuse for violence. I like violent games, but not when it's pointless.

As for RtCW, that wasnt anywhere as good as it should have been... Enemy Territory was fun for a free game, but I wasnt feelin' that either.

So, to answer your question, I dont play either online.

SOF2 was the first multiplayer game I ever played. It's what created my illness (addiction to online gaming). Haven't played it in years but in it's prime, I saw the sun come up many mornings. Probably not many people playing it these days with so many other/newer/better options. I had always hoped a SOF3 would be released but oh well....

I played SoF2 for 2 years, even recently reinstalled it. People do still play it. I believe it is possibly the best FPS ever made.

I'd probably agree with that. When it first came out, myself and two other buddies of mine would all wait until our significant others went to bed and then we'd get on the same map while on 3-way calling with our cell phones. We'd play as a 3-man team all night long and have a blast. To this day, my wife still cusses me for hearing "GRENADE!!!!!" blasting through the speakers at 3:00am or me yelling "COVER ME!!!" into my phone mic. :D

Heck, I remember when the Rooftop demo for the MP version came out. To only have been one board, I spent a TON of time playing Infiltration on that until the official game was released. Good game for sure and the single player was pretty decent too.

Did they (Ravensoft???...think that's who released it) ever put out any other games or just the SOF series?

For the past few weeks, I've played SoF2 multiplayer more than any other of my games. Sometimes up to four or so hours/day. It still flat out rocks. I play almost exclusively deathmatch but I understand CTF is also very popular. It's a credit to the game that there are still a great many DM servers that are well populated. I never have problems getting the kind of game/competition I want. If you get this, make sure you go to one of SoF files boards to DL the mods/addons, etc. Just about all servers are mods these days.

The Gold Edition is just extra maps and patches. I bought SoF2 when it first came out and patched for free to the gold edition. If you can get regular SoF2 (not gold) maybe you can save yourself some $$$$ and patch up to gold. When I boot up SoF2 multiplayer the logo on the load up screen says "Gold." In anycase, you'll want to get to gold.

I used to play SoF2 a lot with some friends... that was such a fun game. One of the best multi-player games I've played. Damn... I need to call them up and have a "SoF2 reunion." lol

*EDIT* Good servers are definately few and far between now though...

SK1 server for any northwest or just plain west people, that was the server I played most on recently. Good crew.

SoF2 Gold is just the latest patched version, that's all. Doesn't cost any more, in fact I doubt you can even find a non-Gold SoF2.

Raven made several good games, one very recently is X-Men Legends for the Xbox. I just picked it up today, it is without a doubt the best X-Men game ever made. Raven is possibly one of my favorite studios. They also made Jedi Outcast :D :D :D

I played ET routinely, back when I had free time. Great game, if you can find a good server with balanced teams. I liked the objective-based missions with improvable character classes.

The Gamespy article on SoF2 is a great read for anyone interested in the game for sure. It pretty much says it all. Too bad for all of us no developers read it.

SoF2 is great if you haven't been able to keep up to date and have an older GF3 or GF4 video card. Graphics are decent and requirements aren't that steep.

To add onto to ET, there are quite a few servers that have the RTCW Multiplayer maps in their rotation. One of them is DrunkenSoldiersXP Save. Rather nice server.
