Anyone still make external water cooling systems...

...That don't cost an arm and a leg?

I had some ideas for this 60gb Playstation 3 restoration project I'll be doing over the winter. Water cooling it is one idea. Found some blocks. But I don't want to spend upwards of $300 Koolance wants for their external units. It needs better cooling but thats too heavy duty. Had the idea of using an old reserator to make it silent, but those still command a lot on eBay.

There used to be cheaper external units all over the place a few years ago. I remember Corsair made one. They've all seem to have disappeared.

Ive never done the mod nor am I an expert, but why does it NEED to be external? Cant you just run the tubes externally and have the rad outside like some computers have?

There's no room in the case. Pump and rad would have to be external. They'd also have to be powered independently.

u can make one externally, but it will look mad ugly.

you could probably just make a wood box, or a cardboard box to house everything.. but again, it wont look anything presentable as a koolance exos.

What I could do is get a budget micro-atx or even mini-itx case and use that to house the pump, reservoir, and power supply. I've got an old 450w PSU with a switch on the back. Then mount the rad externally. I'll check YouTube to see what others have done.

That is probably your best bet. Any other type of housing is either going to be an expensive all in one produce, like the koolance stuff, or mad ugly (unless you are awesome at making stuff)

Wouldn't something like http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9...DC_Converter_w_Standard_4_Pin_5000mA_Max.html be enough to power a WC setup? You could add a http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8883/cab-170/Customizable_Rocker_Switch_Cable_Harness.html#blank so you can turn it off or on when needed. You wouldn't need the case or the PSU. Just mount the rad/pump on a board or a scrap piece of metal.

Found this too: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1...and_-_Dual_2_x_120mm_Bench_Edition_38188.html Its an external rack for Rads/Rez/Pump

Rad mount is a little expensive considering you can get an el cheapo case for as little as $30. Having a naked setup had crossed my mind. I'll most likely be using the Larkooler kit paired with the Alphacool PS3 block. Frozen CPU has the Liquid Extasy block but it's allegedly not compatible with the Fat PS3.

I should mention this is my first water venture. Overly ambitious? You bet! It's a proof of concept/fall & winter project. I bought a busted PS3 off eBay for parts. Supposedly just the PSU is bad, and I happen to have a working one. So I'll probably use the eBay one as my build platform assuming it's not yellow lighting.
