Anyone still a fan of gigantic extended batteries?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 5 to the Galaxy S5 and loved the amount of real-estate I got with the screen, but battery life got hit hard in certain scenarios. The iPhone 5 didn't have great battery life either, but its tiny, low-res screen certainly didn't hurt.

Thankfully, Amazon has a great selection of batteries for the GS5 and I saw the Anker 7500mAh for $40 and bought it. I knew it was going to be a BIG upgrade in battery life, but I am really struggling at killing this phone now. I was planning on posting screenshots of battery life, but I keep charging when it hits 50% every 3 days. Idle with the screen off seems to use 1% every 5-6 hours. I can't imagine the battery life this could achieve with the ultra-power saving toggle.

I'm still used to using a device that has a rather short battery life during heavy load, so my usage-pattern is still pretty light. But the case is very comfortable to hold, and makes the fingerprint sensor easier to use! Before getting this case, I disabled the fingerprint lock, but now the added thickness makes the fingerprint-swipe far easier.

LOL :awe:

The back cover functions as a durable case. It has a very deep pocket for the battery to fit in.

The battery fits well with the GS5

With this gigantic battery, I don't have to worry about running out of juice when I'm far away from a charger. Feels good! This will be really useful for camping/hiking trips and whenever I forget a charger.

Wow. That's....hey-huge.

I'm glad their are such options for those that need them, but personally I far prefer a spare battery (or a few if I were that far from power for any length of time) vs. making my phone into such a brick.

Haha yeah, I think of it as a brick too! It's got a good heft to it now, which I have preferred since my iPhone 3G. This brick of a phone certainly isn't for everyone.

Cool that you're enjoying it! I'm curious to know the max battery life once you've used it long enough, so please keep us posted.

I may run a couple benchmarks that stresses the CPU + GPU + max brightness to see how long it can last in a worst-case scenario. I'll try to match the benchmark for other reviewed phones to give a good idea of how efficient this giant battery really is.

The upcoming Motorola Droid Turbo with its big built-in battery sounds like a good competitor. It does have a higher res screen, much stronger GPU, and another gig of ram though....

I use the 10,000 mAh zerolemon for my Note 3. I love it and would not want another phone that won;t use an extended battery. Last night after a day of heavy use of my 5 year old playing minecraft, I failed to plug my phone into the charger. This morning at 6am it was at 45% and now is at 16% and I know that 16% will last until I go to bed at 10pm.

It is nice knowing, other than its normal nightly charge, that I will not need to take a charger anywhere, and will not have to avoid using my phone to extend its battery charge; my battery will last and do whatever I want it to do until I go to bed.

I had a Zerolemon extended battery for my Galaxy Nexus, but didn't see much of an improvement, but I think that was because of the inefficient SOC in the gnex.

I did notice the extended battery for the galaxy s5 by samsung, but I wanted a big jump in battery life and the price isn't much more. I do miss out on the waterproof part, but owning iPhones for so long have made me very good at keeping phones dry.

Yeah, I'm not planning to jump in a lake with my phone in my pocket so the waterproofing is probably unnecessary but.. well you never know. 🙂

I had a stonking great anker battery for my S3 (I think it was 7000mAh or something) and I still catch myself saying "This S5 has got crap battery life compared to my old phone.". You really do get used to the extra capacity.

That said I'm getting over a day with my (excessively high?) usage on this 3500mAh battery.

I have tended to stick with the official extended batteries for my phones (I had one for the S2, the S3 and the S5, as well as sundry other ones) mainly because they didnt change the look too much. The S2 and S5 ones actually look better than the stock phones, the S3 was a bit thick.

There are times where only a great big zerolemon will do, I'll probably pick one up before I go camping next. 🙂

Never have liked these ginormous batteries, BUT I am glad that people have the choice to get them if they want.

I always wanted them to make one that was in between enormous and the standard battery, but it was always big ones.

yes, i too like decent battery life. my current brick phone has about 1 day worth of juice if i barely use it. i don't care if i look like i'm out of 1985, give me the power to actually do all the stuff my phone is supposed to be able to accomplish.

Ah, I'm jealous. If only Google had seen fit to outfit the N5 with an SD card and removable battery...

While 7500mAh may be too thick for most people, I'd definitely buy a phone with a built-in battery ~ 5000mAh thats just a little thicker than the Droid Turbo coming out soon.

Nope, but I'm a fan of the external battery packs that just plug in

Gah! I hate those things.

They do the job but you either sit it on the desk with one in which case its easier to just plug it in or you end up trying to carry your phone around whilst tethered to a brick with the cable flapping everywhere.

I've got one in my rucksack for emergencies but I really, really detest using it. A quick battery swap is so much better.

Holy hanna that's huge!

I had an extended battery pack on my last iPhone (2,000 or 3,000 mAh). Definitely helped out in the battery life department; didn't mind the size. I would rather have a phone with battery battery life, that is also easier to grip, than not.

On my current iPhone 5S, I just use a Qi wireless charging case ($20 Yipin model off Amazon) along with a scad of those $25 CHOE Qi chargers (work, car, home) so it's always topping off.
