Thanks for the link. I signed up as a personal user, and I guess I'll hope for the best :^)

I bet they get a shit ton of personal applications. If someone was willing to use it for business, I bet they'd be more likely to be accepted.

thank you very much. I applied for several of them for a not-for-profit that I work for.

I dont care for being a beta tester. Which is why I get mad at video games filled with bugs. So many these days need a major patch before they are playable.

No way I'd do it for hardware. I didnt even jump on Android until after a year. And I wont consider WP7 for a while either.

I love beta testing when I'm not paying to do it.Companies that charge for betas are asswipes, but I'm happy to volunteer my time to play with new software, and especially hardware.

I signed up as an educational user. Not sure if that was appropriate. I'm a student and a teaching assistant.

Signed up as business user. Seems like a nice replacement for netbook.

To say this is beta testing isn't that accurate. This is basically a stripped linux install that runs the chrome browser, right? And chrome has been out of beta for a while now.

I signed up for one but not hopeful I'll get one.

They're giving away 60,000 units! According to here:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/08/inventec-ships-60-000-chrome-os-netbooks-to-google-says-let-the/

At 250 a unit that's 15 million dollars, so its not a huge amount of money for Google.

I'm sure that they already got millions of applications from around the world for these notebooks. Your chances of getting one are slim, unless you have connections within Google and have a good publicity stunt to get your application noticed.

Just wondering your reactions to it.
btw you can sign up for a chance for a free one at the link.

Mods:
I wanted more people to see this thread so I didn't post it in Free Stuff or the Notebook forum. Hope that's ok?

Kinda goes against your chances, doesn't it? :D

Eh, I signed up, and I'd be really happy to receive one, but it wouldn't bother me if they don't pick me.

I thought about it, but I need so many programs that only run on windows I cannot commit to using it as my primary machine.

Ummm, NO ONE is using this as their primary machine.
In fact no one has suggested you use it as your primary machine.

EDIT, except for Google at the bottom of the application but I mean, come ON!
We know thats not gonna be the case for all 60,000 of them.

Actually the study requires that you use it as your primary machine for an extended amount of time.

You have to click a box that says you will do so...of course, I realize that doesn't mean people will actually do so...

yeah, and i can do that. the only annoyance would be lack of media playback options....but i use my laptop so much, and primarly for web-based activity that i could use the chrome netbook quite a bit regularly

No. Silly little toys don't amuse me. I have a macbook pro, which is superior in every way imaginable.

I do like that that chrome note(net?)book has a simple design and an apple-esque touchpad.

I wish more laptop manufacturers would go away from that cheap shiny plastic and just give us matte black.

my friend got one, actually. says it's Pine Trail, and reasonably quick. I signed up at his urging but I don't think I really care much.
