so far I've come across rent.com. what are some other sites for looking at apartments? for that matter, where do I look in the city - where would I get brochures or whatever? haven't ever had my own apartment before 🙂

I would recommend to actually go visit an online newspaper in the area that you are looking for....

They typically have a rental section. Housing section. That's how I found my apartment.

I love it too. Next time I move I'm moving into a house

awesome, thank you both! looking at apartment guide and CTnow right now 🙂

There is a website called Apartment Ratings.com or something like that. It's helpful because you get to hear what people think of the complex and the management. Granted you may not get a clear picture of what the place is like since most people who are happy with the place do not submit a review but those who are not do submit one.

awesome, thanks! I was just checking out this apartment in Glastonbury - ratings = not so hot.

I want to live in Glastonbury, Manchester, or East Hartford, since my college is in Manchester (well, for the next year and a half anyway).

I used to live in Florida...moving to Connecticut was a huge price jump in both living expenses and in housing - houses cost WAY more in CT than in FL...which is weird because I thought FL would be more $$ because everyone wants to live there and go to the beach and all.

I'd put in another point that small, local papers are the best. compared to the regional papers, the listings were cheaper and better described.

Agreed.

Check your local newspapers classified ads and CL, chances are you'll find smaller and cheaper apartment listings.

i'd find out what's your local newspaper, then find out if they have a webpage and a classified section.

i didn't really wanted to buy a paper every day to shop for a used car, but then i found out that dailynews (NY) has a decent classified section.
