Anyone shave with a straight razor?

I always thought they were kind of neat, I've never tried one though.

They don't seem too common (well, compared to modern shavers).
Anyone here use one?

Yup,

Have one. Use it now and then. ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO MAKE SURE IT'S PROPERLY SHARPENED!! to get a good, safe shave

Technique is important - meaning that you want to get good at "shaving" and not "slicing"

. And, you should use a good brush.

I practiced with shaving cream on a balloon before I put blade to face (edit - a few balloons).

Very nice shave, better than my gillette disposable, braun or panasonic electrics.

But not for the quick and rush to work sort of mornings!

i was a nurses aid once and used them on the patients.
They dull easily, the newer kind disposable better.

I use one when I have to look very presentable and want the closest nicest possible shave. It is very time consuming compared to whipping out the disposable and running out the door. I have the little cup with the soap in the bottom and you have to whip up your own lather, do the sharpening, etc. It also irritated my skin when I first started, might be because I wasn't that good at it then or just the fact that there's a blade running across my face and I wasn't used to it.

It's all I use. It's not easy at first and you can really hurt yourself if you screw up. I've been using one for 10 years now so it's second nature to me now. The blades dull easily and they can be used to kill if attacked while shaving ( try that with a Mach 3

)

I say letem all play in the street, shave with straight razors, and run with scissors. Eventually you will widdle them down to the steadiest, fastest and most coordinated of the bunch.

yeah its really nice. Go to an old timer barber shop they'll shave you with one of them. its nice and a lot smoother feel than any gillette.
