holly crap a lot more people then i expected I do want to say that i am using a Bic disposable and i use one for about a month (shaving every 3 days) kinda because im so cheap.

Is their an advantage for paying for an expensive handle ?

No real advantage other than comfort, and maybe better control of the razor. I'd hate to have the sucker slip from my grip in the middle of a shave and cut a new clef in my chin.

I use the bic disposables when I travel. They're really only good for one shave, but I have a pretty coarse beard.

For DE blades, I get by with walmart Personna blades in a pinch, but I bought a box of 2000 derby blades for 20 bucks on ebay and have been working on using those up for the last few years. They're a step up from the Personna. Wilkinson swords are my favorite blades so far.

I've been using a Merker Futura for a few years now.

I love it. Good feel and heft, quality materials, adjustable blade angle, etc... I've definitely paid off the price of the razor (and brush when I used one) several times over, by saving on blades vs mach3/fusion cartridges.

It does take longer and requires more care (you *will* nick up your face the first couple/few times), but it's a better and closer shave. I could never shave across the grain with a cartridge...now I can (still can't go against the grain). Also, since it's a clean slice of the hair, no worries about ingrown hairs. That's a big deal for anyone with super thick or curly facial hair.

I used to use the whole soap-in-a-mug thing and apply the lather with a badger brush. Now I just use my regular body soap and shave in the shower using a shitty fogless mirror. The brush might tease the hairs to stand on end better, but I just prefer to be faster.

"safety" is such a relative term here. since i went with panasonic shaver i had never looked back. closer shaves than any of razors and i had NEVER EVER nicked myself, with or against grain. on top of that i get to use it dry or wet, and it washes itself so it's trouble free.

Yeah, that's great for you, but I was blessed with facial hair just short of barbed wire. I keep a full beard and only shave my neck and cheeks to shape it and I'm lucky if I get 3-4 shaves out of a mach3 blade. My dad also has nasty facial hair, he uses his old safety razor he got in the 50s, and he says it works better than the new ones for him. I got him some of the Wal Mart blades and he hated them. If someone knows a better blade, and where to get it I'd love to know.

Check out the sample packs at west coast shaving. They'll send you a variety of the best DE blades avaliable today.

I have a ancient Gillette safety razor i use a lot. Also i have a jem JR single blade i use every now and then. it has a really fat handle and easy to hold.

I like www.shavemyface.com and the forums.

I got a sample pack of 100 razors which has lasted me a long time and cost me $20

Ehh I'm not an elitist so I just buy the disposables. I have really thick hair but they work fine for a couple of shaves.
