Anyone shave their head?

rudeguy

Lifer
I'm tired of haircuts. I want to shave my head but I'm worried about a couple things:
What about a tan line? I tan well so my face is tan. Will I have a weird hair tan line?

How hard is it to get all the hair?

Should I shave it down to a #2 guard for a month or so to let my head tan?

Anything else I should think of?

I've shaved my head a bunch of times. If you're going to do it I would suggest straight razoring it. Two reasons. One it's awesome. Two if you want to get it tan quick this is the way to do it. Apply sunscreen as needed and you should be good in a couple days. The only downside is that it feels crazy odd the first couple days and you'll be much colder than usual.

Everyone should do this at least once in their lives. It's so nice.

I use a DE. I'm not coordinated enough for a straight razor

I cut my own hair... I use the #1 attachment and just go to town every which way until I feel I got every inch of my head. Every year or two, I'd spend the money I'd save on a new toy/gadget. Been doing this for at least 5 years.

I clip mine off now. Shaving isn't difficult, but you must take your time: head wounds bleed like hell, and for a long while. And half asleep at 5 or 6am while late for work... happens...

I wasn't suggesting straight razoring yourself. Go to a barber. I would never dream of shaving my own head. Even if you opt to do a #1 it makes sense to pay the $5 to get someone to do it for you or better yet just have a friend do it.

If you go to a barber they will use that wax thingy that stops all bleeding too. Most likely though you'll barely get cut. I have thick hair so they have to straight razor my head twice to get it smooth and generally I only get 1 or 2 cuts that aren't a big deal. I have to admit I have never had it done without getting cut. I once thought I was home free but he nicked me on the last cut.

Doing it yourself though you have to understand that the blood vessels are really close to the surface and you'll bleed like crazy. Horror movie crazy.

Go to a barber. It's great. Grow a beard and get it all shaved off at once.

Unless you're totally bald on top, why the fuck would you want to shave your head and look like a dork?
The only men who look "manly" with a shaved heads are the ones who would look manly with a full head of hair...everyone else looks goofy.

Yep, just finished actually: 000 blade (0.5mm).

I'm balding on top, so it was this, a hairpiece, drugs, or cutting myself. My head was very white when I first did it, so I went outside without a hat in the sun a lot -- bad idea. The sun is worst when it hits something at a specific angle. Since your dome is a relatively flat surface, parallel with the ground and sky, it'll get a lot of sun. Nowadays, I wear a hat the second I'm outside.

Just be careful you don't get sunburnt until you build up a decent tan up there. Will look silly for a week or 2 depending on how short your hair already is but it should even out pretty quickly

I keep tossing around the idea of doing mine with just a number 5 all the way around, but cant get the nerve to try it. I already get a number 5 on the sides with a scissor cut at the stylist.
