Here's the dog.

I saw a demonstration at the Sony Metreon this weekend.

The dog is amazing. Watching it play with a ball and interact with this little girl was pretty cool. The thing has a camera inside which it uses to identify different objects. It could also can be set to guard the house and it will take pictures of anything that moves. You can also send it commands from your PC and take snapshots of anything it's looking at.

After seeing A.I. this weekend as well it makes me wonder what robot "companions" will be like in a few years.

Who actually buys these things? I suppose they must be corporate gifts for the very wealthy or something. I can see why Sony is interested in making them from an R & D perspective, and I imagine it is fun to work on their AI, but I can't imagine why anyone would actually want to own one.

Dude! That's cool! I want one 🙂

It would be cool to actually have it memorize the layout of your house so it can go looking for things/people or something. Too bad it doesn't have an actual mouth for retrieval, though. Would be cool to go "go get the paper" and have to do it. 🙂

I saw the old dog last year at cebit and what a useless cute toy.

This one looks like it could kill you:Q

LOL - yeah, snapshot you to death... "It could also can be set to guard the house and it will take pictures of anything that moves"

The actual execution is much more impressive than the concept, IMO. I used to think that it was some useless AI gimmick until I saw a demo. It's amazing.

One of the reasons AIBO is so popular in Japan is because most houses cannot accomodate real dogs. This is the closest thing to a pet that many Japanese households can have.

What... the kid isn't good enough? 😉 😛

I mean hey... it doesn't leave hair all over the place... doesn't slobber all over everything in the house, doesn't bring home dead cats, and you won't be alergic to it. This thing's almost perfect. 🙂

nik (still wants one of these things)

Yup. Exactly the same thing at my cousins place. They live in a condo complex so my granddad got them the Latte one for Christmas. Once you start playing with it its actually pretty cool. And complex too, you'd be suprised.

hot dog that is cool (no pun intended 🙂 ) I wonder what my neighbors husky would make of that like guy? it might be fun to watch
