yeah man...
I'm dying for another pro review and a few customer reviews.

I'm STILL interested in this one!

Anyone got one of these yet????

Ya totally... I am thinking of getting this monitor for my b-day coming this june. I really need an LCD for college, and this one looks killer. Anyone play games on this monitor? I want any opinions please.

I haven't seen anything new on this one as far as reviews go... but with the falling prices of monitors like the Samsung 181T and the NEC LCD1850x I'm beginning to wonder if it is worth all of the hype.

Unfortunately, this is all that is said about gaming....

Does this monitor rock for gamers, web-designers, and corporate execs? Definitely.

A little vague... 🙂

There is also a decent review of the display at PCStats.

Again... no real info on gaming though.

Any die-hard, or even casual gamers out there own this lcd?

I spend most of my time on the computer playing games, not all of them are FPS though...

How does this lcd do in fast paced games, or any games you've played on it please rate it for us.

This monitor looks like its going for near $1000 shipped right now, and I was seriously considering it until I read so many people on these boards happy with their Planar 17 inch from Dell. The Planar is easily $220 cheaper then the 171p (this is without any dell coupons), but I'm pretty sure the Samsung is of higher quality output, just not sure if its enough to explain the difference in price.

Anyone know how the Samsung 171p compares to the Planar PV174? How about compared to the slightly older Samsung models, the 171P is their newest offering. Any other LCD recommendations? I was pretty much looking at these two.. but I haven't been in the market looking around for very long.

The 171P seems overpriced to me compared to other LCDs of the same size.

I don't know how good the Samsung is (I settled on an NEC 1850X) but the Planar PV174 had really bad ghosting in games ... anyone who says that there is no ghosting is apparently not bothered by such things.

I'm in there with 'new2computers'...i'd love to hear some user impressions of the 171p for gaming, or the older 171s. I can't speak to the Planar specs, but i know the 171P has a 500 contrast ratio. That's more than anything else I know of off hand....looks like a great ouput LCD though.

Does the Planar have portrait mode?

Steph

Anymore impressions with the PV174, I was under the impression that it performed pretty well.

Anyone else with an opinion on the 171P for its ability to display games, does it have very limited if any blurring, or...?

We just got 4 of the 181T's in at work today. I'll try to sneak my laptop in Thurs. and check one of them out if anyone is interested in finding out.

I have one question.
Why doesn't EVERY LCD MADE have a thin bezel? LCD's don't need 1"+ wide bezels (like this Samsung), and a thin bezel is one of the main reasons I want to go LCD...too bad I can't find a great 17" thin bezel display, I'll have to go with the NEC 1850X instead...

I bought a nec/mitsubishi 1850x for my brother-in-law overseas and tested it out. It absolutely blew me away! The colors were so bright and beautiful, I used it for a week with autocad, photoshop, and loved it. The only problem is that the screen did not pivot front to back. I read an ergonomics study on the web that says monitors lower than eye level were better, I tried it for a week and am a beleiver, less eyestrain and less dry eyes than the old top to eye level rule. Has anyone used the nex 2010x?, they have refurbs at tiger direct for a grand, normally around 1700.

I just tried out two sony sd-s81 lcd's bought from best buy and liked them a lot, analog only though, so I took em back. BTW best buy has a zero pixel replacement policy for their extended warranty, $50.00. After amex pming and rebates, they would have been a little over 800.00 each. The sonys have low bases and as discussed above helps eye dryness.

I am now using a dell 1900fp and although the bezel is slim silver (its a samsung rebadge), the monitor screen white balance looks brownish and a little more dull than the sonys. The dell base stand positions them higher than the sonys.

I compared the dell with the sony side by side in a dual monitor setup. I would have liked to do the same with the nec. The sonys did have a nice image. I am searching for a better monitor deal 18-20", and need two.

Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated.:Q
