Anyone seen how Daikatana is boxed? =D

I was in CompUSA today looking for a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter (fat chance. No, they didn't even know what it is). On my way out, I noticed a shelf with Deus Ex and Daikatana on display. Deus Ex is packaged as usual, glossy cardboard with a flap on the front, open it, see more information and screenshots. Standard. Next to it is Daikatana, and these stooopid packages look like they're designed to be used by the military or distributed in areas of unbelievably high crime! The glossy Daikatana box is encased in a superthick transparent plastic case that could probably survive a Dozen Angry Monkey Crowbar Attack (DAMCA🙂). Did IonStorm order this? More importantly, why would anyone want to steal crap like that anyway when it would be much easier to slip a nicer game like Deus Ex under their overcoat? I just don't understand hype sometimes.

It's packaged that way so that it can survive the bumps and bruises boxes get in the discount bin😉

Daikatana
README.TXT by John Romero (C) 2000 Ion Storm, Inc.

Thank you for your purchase of Daikatana! I mean that from the
very bottom of my heart and I wish I could be right there with
you while you're at home opening up the box, smelling the manual,
installing the game and getting your first glimpse of the crazy
world and insane storyline that I'm about to put you through.

I recommend that you read this file for the most up-to-date
information about various features or technical issues with Daikatana
because we've really been cramming a lot of last-minute stuff in here.

Since Daikatana is a game for big, big boys (and girls), you should
be ready to face-down horrible monsters, track down an evil scientist
through time, learn how to efficiently control your sidekick buddies,
and generally prepare yourself for extreme action and massive mayhem.

Am I the only one who feels bad for John Romero ?

I bought Daikatana yesterday and I still haven't been able to play it. Apparently I need to download a patch in order to get it to work.
Some people say that if a new version of Daikatana was released with the new patch, then it would be a good game ! 😛

However, I have heard people say that the first levels of Daikatana suck and eventually it gets really good....

Think Romero will retire from this one? 😛
There's hundreds of crap games released all the time, it was too bad that this one was in the spotlight for a number of years.

What's wrong with smelling the manual? I loved smelling a freshly opened mack of Magic cards... just something about the varnish that was used on the cards printed in Carta Mundi... mmm... varnish...

It's to protect it from computer nerds like us from destroying the product before it can get into some ignorant fool's shopping bag. I've found a way around it though! Just scream, "There's a bomb in the Daikatana box!" No one will ever go near them!

Sorry, no, I don't get it. That printer didn't work and so was beaten by disgruntled software engineers. Daikatana sucks. Nope, don't get it. 🙂
