What exactly was it about and is it worth buying the DVD or just renting it?

Don't you just love the way the American producers of the film somehow changed history to produce this film, it's just pathetic... Don't go and see this film for the factual info, there isn't any, Everybody knows that it was the English that captured the enigma machine from the germans in the second world war... They can't even tell it how it was!!!!!

It was a fairly exciting 1.5 hours of entertainment. And that's all the more that it is. Entertainment.

Definitely worth a couple bucks for the rental fee.

The historical inaccuracy(re: lie)sucks to be sure, but it's not a bad movie. I have it on DVD and watch it on occassion. I would rather have Hunt for Red October though.

Das Boot is an awesome submarine movie told from the other side, well worth renting if you haven't seen it yet.

<<, Everybody knows that it was the English that captured the enigma machine from the germans in the second world war... They can't even tell it how it was!!!!! >>

The British did capture the first Enigma machine from a U-boat, but the Americans did also capture one later in the war.
The movie isn't meant to be a documentary, it's a movie for chrissakes. They even list the dates of when Enigma machines were actually captured and by whom at the end of the movie.

Not a bad flick, but I agree with an earlier post....check out Das Boot.

I thought it was good from an entertainment standpoint but there was several flaws in the reality of the flick.

It's a very good movie, entertainment-wise. So it's not a documentary... so what? Besides, it was neither the British nor the Americans that captured the first Enigma machine. The Polish captured one first, but it was not in proper working order. They smuggled it out to bletchley park in Britain where it was used to start work on trying to 'break' the enigma (which really never happened). The enigma code was defeated because of sloppy use and lazy operators. Had it been used properly (with the 4 rotor variety, code named "shark", it would not have been broken). There's an excellent book on the history of the enigma called -- you guessed it Enigma :) There's also one from Alan Turing who invented the 'bombes' (computer) to help break the enigma code.[/L]

It was entertaining to see but I was expecting more from the previews I saw. It's definitely no where near as good as "The Hunt for Red October" or "Das Boot".
