This is not funny! I'm serious.

How do I lock and unlock this if it's through RDP anyways? I don't dare log completely off or restart the box either because if I'm locked out I'm up the brown river without a paddle. Can I just leave it alone?

Sounds like your login credentials expired, thus it is prompting you to re-enter them. Apparently, it wants you to request some (GINA?) login dialog, at which point your login credentials will be refreshed and given a new session timeout.. I guess.

I've never used RDP for so long that my credentials have expired. Although, since I'm using XP Pro and remote admin, I'm not sure if those session ever expire anyways, like a normal user's might. Are you admin on that box? There's got to be some setting that controls login session credential-expiration timeouts too.

Well it's kind of complicated. (the way I get here) There is someone (at the site) that I trust to resolve this if it gives me a fit so I'm going to leave well enough alone and ignore these messages. I don't think the accounts have (expiration) dates on them, at least mine should not. I'm an admin across the board as well. It's just strange. I did have to change my password about a month ago and the password complexity policies are absurd so that may have something to do with it as well.

What's RDP?

Just firing from the hip, I'd say this is some virus/spyware that is trying to sucker you into giving it your password. The fact that it asks you to use Ctrl-Alt-End instead of Ctrl-Alt-Del (the REAL Windows secure attention sequence) sends all kinds of red flags up in my mind.

It isn't spyware, ctrl-alt-end is how you do CAD in a terminal server session. Sharkeeper, did you stayed logged into this RDP session when you last changed your password? That would explain this message, Windows needs you to type in the new password. Have you tried doing ctrl-alt-end and entering your current password? That should get rid of the messages.

I wasn't talking about password expiration dates, I was talking about Windows' cached version of the credentials, essentially the "session login credentials", not your actual password, although you have to enter your password to refresh the session login credentials. (I'm not super-familiar with the nitty-gritty of this stuff, so consider that statement more of an overview look at it.)

Generally, if your password itself expires, it will prompt you to change it at the next login. I have no idea what happens to your session login credentials, if you are currently logged in and your password expires. I would assume nothing.. but that could well be wrong.

No, that's actually normal, the "normal" console escape sequences get modified, such that they change when you are currently logged in via an RDP session. So that message is probably accurate, and likely not to be a trojan. (RDP = Remote Desktop Protocol)

Yes I don't want to get shut out of this server. It's my only way to get to a lot of places I need to frequently connect. I'll try updating when I'm in FL Saturday.

Thanks guys! :)
