<< Jeez, the guy asks a simple question about who may have watched the BET Awards last night, and the anti-rap coalition bursts in...

To answer your question josh, my mother called me, so I was able to see Whitney Houston perform. How was the rest of the show?
>>

Great show, except for that damn Lil' Bow Wow :p

I watched the awards last night, it was great. I was a little disappointed that the Bad Boy crew, Cash Money, and No Limit soldiers weren't there. They've all had plenty of top 10 videos in the past year. Oh well.

<< >>That was an interesting comment on "What if we had a channel called 'White Entertainment Television"....<<

Two words: Johnnie Cochran
>>

Bullseye. They would be called racists and it could never exist. Last night they even made some jokes about a white guy handing the mic to them. Same with something like White Avenue (like AsianAvenue.com), that site would get flamed.

classy - BET merged with some other company but I don't think you can say it is owned by white people. Everyone thanked the BET guy (Steve or someone?) last night. I have never seen a white person work there, and I have seen enough BET to see that includes the cameramen and producers, writers, etc. Many white comedians on comicview? There couldn't be more than 1 in 10, and no one is white in the crowd or those ladies sitting on the stage.

brxndxn - how many black friends do you have? Friends is more accurate than having everyone a different race even though it doesn't represent America's demographics.

And to everyone saying hip hop is mindless crap, thanks for showing your ignorance.

If it was the other way around (white people saying some of the stuff the black people say), everyone would call it racist.

The mic thing last night ("we got white people working for us now, ain't this great!"), Free saying "they're always trying to prosecute a black man" about Jay-Z, and in videos, out of the few white people shown, half are portrayed as racist cops or dorks. Thats just what I can think of right now.

Oh, and the fact that it is Black Television... I mean if they called it Hip Hop or something it'd be okay. Hip hop is a culture, Black is a race.

I like BET, but I still think it is more racist than not.

The point is BET is racist. Tell me one white show on that channel. Where is if you look at the other networks they have both white and black shows. BET is racist period.

I also agree with lamplighter. Its a double standard. Lets see a white comedian get up and crack a joke like.
"we got black people working for us now, ain't this great" I wonder what would happen????? but is ok for a black comedian to bash white people. something is wrong with this picture.

I dont have any problem with a name like BET. But I want an honest opinion...What would the responce from the Black community be to a channel called "White Entertainment Television". I dont want to hear about all the other channles being white entertainment...that is not the point. It is the NAME I am curious about. What do you think ??

It means that it's direct at black people, meaning black people would probably be the only people who like it. "MTV" means "MUSIC Television", meaning it's directed at people who like to listen to music, if you hated music then you wouldn't tune into MTV. Same goes for BET, if you hated hip-hop, rap then you wouldn't tune into BET.

Sorry, didn't seem like that. The black communities probably wouldn't care because they have BET and they would have no reason to argue. Besides, it's not like they CAN'T watch "WET" (no pun intended), just like white people have the choice to watch BET or not.

Do you think they would hold themselves back from an instintual urge to argue about it, simply because they know they have a channel called Black Entertainment TV. What if there was no BET..would they argue then ?

No, why would they? They have no reason to. White people are allowed to have their own channel, it's not against the law, also, they have every right to watch WET, so why would they argue? It would be like PETA getting mad over the "Animal Planet" channel :p

Look...i dont diagree with you. I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with a channel called BET. I can still see Jesse Jackson bithcing about a channel called White Enterrtainment TV. Especially if there were no BET. But that is my humble opinion. You are probably right, that the black community wouldnt make it an issue, especially with BET already around.

I like all the black comedians whose entire line-up consists of White People jokes. What would happen if a white guy spent an hour making fun of black people like that? Would it fly ?

They've done it before. I've seen Jim Carrey do it, most black people just laugh. They can take a joke.

I don't believe that. I've seen people get upset about the strangest things. Try

NAAWP
Miss White America
United White College Fund

and there's probably more that would tick alot of people off.

And I'm not talking about everyone, it's just a little one sided sometimes.
