oops... accidentally posted in the wrong forum before :p anywho...

i saw it last nite. i got to say... i had high hopes for this movie, being that harrison ford and liam neilson (sp?) were in it. the movie was rather long... i thought there would be more action to keep me interested, but at some points, i just wanted the stinking movie to end. also... if i had to compare this with some other submarine movies i have seen... like u571, hunt for red october, & and gene hackman/denzel washington (i forgot the name)... k19 ranks right on the bottom :(

now that i got that rant off... i have a question for those who saw the movie and had the will to pay attention at the end of the movie. u know right after liam neilson decides not to take over as captian for harrison ford... when ford finally gives in and says he will ask the americans for help... and they finally get "saved" by another soviet sub... i thought the guy said that moscow has denied their request for the men of k19 to board the other sub, and that they will be towed back? then its like the next scene... everyone is boarding the other sub. what happened there?!?

You're confused cause you probably didn't pay attention near the end.. Ford said that he didn't care, and just wanted to get his men off, even though he knew it'd mean the end of his career, and maybe even his execution. That's what the trial at the end of the movie was for.. his decision to take the men off of the boat.

wow... you were really bored eh?

to miss that part.

that was basically the turn around point for harrison's character. .. a rather significant one.

i understood that in the end... ford decided to see things neilson's way (saving the men & ditching the boat). actually... ford wanted to get his men off the boat and he was going go down with the sub. but i thought there were orders from moscow that denied the crew from k19 to board the rescue sub? u know what i am talking about?

P.S. - yes i knew what the trial in the end was about... i'm just wondering how the crew got permission to board the other sub.

I thought it was an alright movie. Not that much action, but I liked it still. It's sort of comparable to Thirteenn Days (is that the name?). Trying to keep true to the story.

He was defying orders thats all.

When you go see that movie, the thing to keep in mind is that it's base on a real life event.
It gets really tense when the crew had to deal with the radiation because you're thinking, OMG this really happened that is so sad.
One of the scene the officers said "you might as well send them in wearing raincoats" and after hearing that I'm like Holy Sh*t.
Can you imagine actual people walking in there knowing whats going to happen to them yet it was a job that had to be done?

hoihtah: i thought the k19's antenna was broken? i seem to remember someone reporting that to ford... thats why they couldn't radio into moscow (it was too far). then they showed the two subs next to each other, so i figured "oh he must be getting orders from the other sub".

SC: yeah, that part with the radiation was so messed up. they cut corners everywhere they could... the backup cooling system wasn't installed. and those "raincoats"... YEE-OUCH!!! what kinda sux is that all those guys have these russian names and i dun remember or spell them... hehe :p that nuclear technichian guy.... the crying dude... he pissed me off. kinda like that guy in saving private ryan, who curled up in a ball crying while his comrade got stabbed in the heart. :disgust:

i might be making stuff up but here is what i *think* i remember:
the turning point was when liam neeson releases harrison ford and then harrison ford tries to tell the people that they need to take the sub into deeper depths because they don't want to be blamed for blowing up the american destroyer. liam neeson tells harrison ford not to command the men but to ask them. harrison ford does this and the from the replies, he finds how truly dedicated his men are to their country. then he sees his men in a different light and thats when he truly notices what the radiation is doing to his men. the guys who went into the radioactive chamber are really messed up. he decides to abandon the vessel and directly disobeying orders from moscow.
liam neeson thinks that harrison ford was just very ambitious and trying to make a name for himself and not caring that men were dying. but really, harrison ford was struggling with the legacy of his father being named a traitor and he didn't want to follow those footsteps. but he changes at the end when he shows he cares more about his men than his future...

it was a very good movie...they probably should have cut out the extended ending......the ambience and settings were great....if there is anything against this movie then it has to be the fact that it is the 4th or 5th in a long line of sub movies. after i watched this movie i realized that u571 was just a stylized sub movie. reg crimson tide and HFRO , they both were good movies , but there is no point in comparing these movies, the only thing they have in common is the sub setting. the sub in k 19 was especially scary when compared the the subs in other movies partly because of its cramped space and leaking machnics.

ramsnake: i dunno... i really liked u571. i guess i am more into action movies. u571 always had something going on... fast paced movie. but k19... sometimes i just wanted to snooze :p but i just realized something else. i paid $9 to watch k19 and u571 was free. hehe... so maybe that had something to do with it ;)

U-571 was complete, utter crap! No movie can be any suckier!

K19 was shot here, so it's no wonder that the setting was authentic :). That sub is owned by a finnish businessman who bought it from the russians.

Yeah, it just twisted historical facts, contained numerous errors, acting was blah and it was generally speaking stupid.
