Im getting my eye operation in 6 days.( strabism ).The part that scare me the most is the anastesia.Im going under anastesia for about 30 minutes.

I hate drugs all my life.I dont like the feeling of getting stone, etc.And imo an anastesia is like a drug i will get injected in my body.

How does it feel seriously? I just feel suddently very asleep very fast? Drunk? Feeling of getting stone?

Im not scare about the operation at all, but im very scare about getting this anastesia... :(

The only reason I got my wisdom teeth pulled was to get the painkillers and to be put under. I thought it was fun. Grow some testicles

Why would you hate anasthesia? You should be afraid of the knife and the after effects and not dying and the doctor not having sex with your unconscious corpse.

You are completely out. You probably won't even remember the day much at all.

DOC: count backwards from 10
YOU: 10..9..8...........
30 minutes later
YOU: *wake up* WTF 30 minutes passed?
*get ride home, remember little of the rest of day*

Its fine. Honestly. You wont remember a thing, and you wont even know that you passed out.

you'll be under a "dreamless" sleep, nothing euphoric or addictive side-effects

just be glad you live in a time where there is the option to have surgery with anesthesia instead of you biting down on a stick

Good luck. I hear they pay the highest of any medical malpractice insurance.

Versed makes you forget everything that happens that day, most eye surgeries are quick and painless. Anesthesia, OB/GYN, and Ortho are the fields with the highest malparactice rates. Is it coincidence that they are also amongst the highest paying medical fields?

I once went under for oral surgery for 3 hours and thought I was only out for like 10 minutes. Didn't hurt a bit, nothing really happened, no real after effects either (I wouldn't drive though)

Here's something to remember....

About 100 people per day "wake up" during surgery

I watched an episode of Montel Williams a couple months ago and they had a patient who was having her eye REMOVED -- and she apparently was "aware" during most of it. But she was "out" enough to not be able to say anything. I don't remember her name, but I'm pretty sure she went on to create an "awareness oranization" -- and should have a web-site with more details. (I'm too lazy to search)

Oh, and judging by her description... having an eye removed hurts a lot.

But when it works... It's just like what that guy said above "10... 9... 'huh? where am I? it's over?"
Feels like when you're waking up from a deep sleep. Dizzy/light-headed for about 30 seconds, then it's worn off.

Been under a few times, not a big deal.

First time ever they gave me the choice of gas vs IV. Being young & stupid (gradeschool aged) I picked the gas.

Started out great with the cute nurse holding my hand but for years afterwards the smell of a dentist/orthodontist office made me want to puke.

IV is much nicer.

One of these days (when I get around to it) I need a cornea transplant, I'll be awake for that. I can't wait.

Man, I've gotta agree, the gas sucks. The one time they gave me the gas instead of IV I had a choice between "orange" and "strawberry" (I was no older than 8 at the time). 20 years later I can still remember the smell of that orange crap... give me an IV anytime.

Speaking as a surgical veteran (23 so far), anesthesia is no big deal. Although after I had one of my surgeries the last time I lost memory for the day preceding the surgery. That was a bit unsettling, I've never had that happen before. My family swears I've done some pretty funny stuff before they knock me out for surgery, but they won't tell me what... :(
