I?m trying to install Mcafee virus scan ver 4.5 in Win2K and at what seems to be the end of the install process it says that it is rolling back the installation and that no changes were made to my computers configuration. I tried all sorts of different things and can't get it installed . Has anyone else had this problem?

When I first installed W2K I tried using McAfee and had numerous problem. The version number was 4.2 then. I don't know if they have tried to fix any compatibility issues since then or not.

Not trying to steer you away but when I ran into my problems with McAfee, I switched over to NAV and I like it better overall now.

...4.5 is running fine on my friend's win2k box. did some snooping around and found some info on the mcafee site.

Windows 2000 Compatibility Statement

At the present time, the only product that will work with Windows 2000 is the Anti-Virus portion of McAfee Clinic (called ActiveShield). None of our other installed or online products are currently certified for use with Windows 2000.

Microsoft Corporation has only recently released the information that we need in order to adjust our products for compatibility. Our developers are currently working diligently on Windows 2000 compatible products.

Also, please remember that Windows 2000 is not the retail replacement for Windows 98, but is the Corporate replacement for Windows NT4. Windows Millennium will replace Windows 98. Our recommendation is to wait and check the websites for announcements on when we are able to release Windows 2000 compatible products.

Keep in mind though that this applis to latest supported release 4.03 (winNT) and 4.5 (win98).

4.5 is not official yet as far as i know.

As I said last nite, Norton 2k has worked flawlessly for me on my win2k box.

You know where to find it ;)

later... -p

Hey thanks Need4Speed. I looked all over McAfee's site today and couldn't find anything on it. I tried NAV2000 but it hosed up my email, I could send but couldn't receive. Went back to McAfee version 4.0.3a .

My dad had a similiar problem. The way to get by this:

During the install of NAV2K, it will ask you something about enabling email protection on some accounts. Do not enable this. It will cause the problem you described.

Besides, it's not really required as attachments and such are scanned when opened anyway.

Good Luck
