I've got a Debian 11.5 system running as a media server and I'm kind of curious to install an A770 on it. Supposedly its AV1 encoding capability is pretty nice, and it would be neat just to play around with. Has anyone messed with these cards yet? My understanding is that I'll need kernel 6.0+, which with Debian sounds like a mess, but that's half the fun. If I do this, I'll have to migrate off of ZFS or wait since they don't seem to officially support 6.0 yet. They are working on 6.1 support, so maybe it'll work? :p

Decided to give it a try. How it started vs how it's going:

I'm going to keep trying. This is Cinnamon. Gnome works fine, but it is literally the devil in desktop form, so I'm not sure which is worse. Unfortunately Intel's tools on Intel's preferred distribution, Ubuntu 22.04, don't seem to detect the card. Builds of ffmpeg don't seem to see the card either. Should be fun.

Why don't you try Clear Linux?
Probably worth doing. They have instructions for Ubuntu (https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/installation-guides/ubuntu/ubuntu-jammy-arc.html), and in fact only have installation guides for it (https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/)

Might be worth trying Clear Linux, I've been thinking about it anyway. I may just be a bit too early to the party when it comes to software. I found some C code to have OpenCL identify devices and it segfaults. GDB results:

Information is kind of hard to get with all of this, I think Reddit really breaks Google search for these kinds of things. Maybe I'll make a blog post or something when I get it all figured out.
