i have a dell 4500 (230watt ps) and today i will be receiving an 8250 (250watt ps). i want to take the Radeon 9700 out of the new system (which i will be giving to a relative) and swap it with the gforce 4200 in my 4500. but i realized that the 9700 has a power connection and am wondering if the 4500's power supply be able to handle the 9700? how much power does this card draw? if it helps i'm running a 1.8ghz with a dvd rom, cd-rw, and two hard drives.

OOPS.. put in my name and password and it worked too well.. hehe

Anyway.. I just ordered a Shuttle SB51-G with a 2.4 Northwood, 512 Corsair XMS, 120GB WD HD, Radeon 9700 Pro, and a Combo DVD/CDRW drive, and it should run just fine on the 200 Watt PS that comes with it. I saw at least 4 other cubes with 9700's, big HD's and a 5.25 along with 2.4 to 2.8Ghz P4's and it ran rock solid. you have 1 extra HD, so I think you'll be just fine having 50 more watts of PS.

Good Luck.

actually, the system i put the 9700 in has the 230 watt power supply...but it seems to be working fine! i still have a question about the power connector to/from the radeon...is it ok to split it off of any cable coming from the power supply? there was an unused cable that was on the same line as the cable going to the floppy drive so i used that...i think the instructions say to split the cable going to your hard drive. does it really matter where i splice the radeon in?
