it is phpbb

i dont think they are many free forums that run on MS SQL. is this his own server? install mysql isnt hard to do.

snitz is ASP based and runs on MS SQL, ACCESS, MYSQL

phpBB runs on MS SQL 7/2000 Link

Database Server Support
phpBB uses a database abstraction layer to enable seamless support of several database servers:
MySQL 3.2x,
PostgreSQL 7.x,
Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000
Microsoft Access (via ODBC)
...with more databases available in the future.

My bd i just noticed that

Its not his own...a friend runs an ISP and he's giving us a free hosting deal. I don't know think they'll install MySQL for us. I hope that Invision board update comes soon, I'm looking forward to making a forum.

quick question. How exactly do you install one of these things assuming you have a host that supports MySQL and PHP? Do you have to physically install something and keep it running or does it generate all the necessary HTML/XML type stuff for you? I guess I'm confused on how these things are packaged.

They just released an update but they said MS SQL Server support is the big push for the next one. I anticipate it being a major release that won't come till spring.

It isn't very hard to install at all.... they've tried to make it as painless as possible.

You first have to unzip all the files to your hard drive and then upload them all to your website. Make sure that you upload the proper files in ASCII and the images in binary.

After that you just run the install file via a web browser and viola! It's done. Pretty simple. They have a pretty good support forums also.

are they considering adding a CMS (content management system) component to their next big update? i remember there was talk about it before v1.1 beta was released.

Not sure, but it appears there are some user resources that provide portals. Check out this site.

They are working on a seperate program for this; it won't be a component of the forums. The same person who created IBForums is doing the portal work.

Is CMS (Content Management System) sort of like a PHP news portal?
