hey, so who here rides a bike? i was considering getting one, but its just so hard to convince myself when i see pictures of peoples brains smeared on the ground. so for those of you who ride a sportbike, or i guess any type, how often do you come in close calls with cars and things on the road? also, have you ever been hit or....died? i know i probably shouldnt get a bike, so i probably wont, but i need some fun in my life, even though im still very young....[but responsible! (it needed to be said)].

I'm not sure you'll get any replies from dead people. 🙂

Anything can happen on ATOT.

72cc track/road bike here 🙂
I ride my rs50 to work every weekend (7 miles highway 2 local)
I wouldnt recommend it for a beginner it gets the job done for me

my wifes ex250 is more than enough for any starter, who ever says it's too slow never ridden one.
im 190lbs with full gear on, the wifes ex250 will pull me to 100ish mph (on the track)
14.9 @ 85mph 1/4
it's not the fastest bike (duh 😉), but it is faster that most vehicles on the road

Sportbikes are Not Beginner Bikes

a must read for anyone thinking of getting a 600cc or larger sportsbike as a first ride........................

Without reading the article, why does everyone here just say sport bikes? Cruisers over 600cc's can be a handful as well.

MY 79 Yammy XS1100 has ~100hp stock, runs 11 second 1/4 miles. Newer cruisers with bags like Yammys V-stars have power close this, V-max, HD V-rod, are all easily off the top of my head. Hell a Yammy FJ1300 or even a BMW cruiser will haul ass and get you in trouble.

Doesn't matter if you think you'll go slow, you twist that throttle in a panic and the bike won't care if you only want to go slow, which is why a smaller cc bike is advocated. Ninja 250/500, excellent choices. Also, crashing can hurt, so just know that you can be in for the worst pain of your life if you do go down at some point.

Been riding regularly on the street for 7 years now, and I am on my second bike. I sold the first one ('79 Honda CX500) in the same condition I bought it in, and for the same money ($600), and I did not ever lay it down. Ride like you have a brain, and like every other person on the road does not. I love motorcycling, I put my helmet on reminding myself that I am invisible and everyone wants to kill me, I ride for hours, and my favorite part every time is rolling into the shop at home in one piece. Good medicine for your soul and cheap as long as you don't crash. 😉

+1 on the MSF course
+1^10 on ATGATT
