My friend broke hers and I want to try fixing it. If all goes well...I might do it as a side job.

Any tips for me? What tools should I buy?

I've replaced various screens on original iPhones (really unpleasant), iPhone 3GS (easy), iPhone 4 (not as easy, but not bad) and iPhone 4S (same as iPhone 4).

Haven't done of an iPhone 5 or iPhone 3G. I just use the tools that come with the screens on Ebay - and a guitar pick, they work great.

Then I'm sure you have most of the right tools. The only thing you'll likely need is a pentalobe screwdriver, and that you can get when you order the replacement screens. Tht will be to open a 4/4S/5 on the bottom. Inside is usually phillips.

Basically, what pm said is spot on.
The iPhone 3G/3GS/5 should be fairly easy to deal with, because the screen comes off the body first thing. Undo the screws, use a suction cup to pull the screen up and detach the cables. Pretty easy.

The 4/4S aren't HARD, it's just tedious. That's because the phone opens up from the rear an you've basically got to disassemble the whole thing to get to the screen.

I would imagine you're not going to be getting too many 2007 iPhones.

The 4/4s have different sizes screws, one flathead and the rest are philips besides the two that hold the back on

Why? As a buyer there isnt really much too wory about, especially if you buy from the big and established sellers

Too many bad experiences. Heck...I got scammed for a $20 Xbox hard drive last time I ordered. $20 is worth a negative now?? Whatever.

I ordered an Apple branded replacement screen and a cheap tool kit from Amazon so I should be trying this out this week. I'm really excited to try this out. This seems like a much better side job than fixing computers...we'll see though
