Check for custom bioses by that oskar wu dude. He is personally responsible for some serious OC on the dfi's entire 939 line. :hmm:

ALTHOUGH, i doubt you'd get more than 2.7 out of a 3400+. I had a 3200 that did 2.8 and a very lightly used opteron 144 which does 2.9. Currently using opt 165 at 2.85

unlikely that u'll get more than 2.8 on anything that's been crankin' for a while.

I also have a dfi nf3.. ah yes, my ol' 8x AGP..yea woooo... ati 9800xt.. and eventually a nv6800.

I remember Zap getting 2.7 ghz on his Sempron with the Lanparty nf3. Ah, the good old days. It's a shame I had to dismantle my sempron/vnf3-250 combo @ 2.32 ghz the other day . . . ah the memories.

I have the 3400+ 2.4 Newcastle core (vs the 3400+ 2.2 Clawhammer core) I thought I remember reading some of the Newcastles were good up to around a 3.0 overclock.

I am thinking about upgrading budget $$ CPU.MB,RAM & VC but just can't decide which to CPU to go with either the AMD Phem II X3 720 black 2.8 or the AMD AII 630 Propus AM3 2.8? So just in the mood last night to temporary just see how high my 3400+ would go and then just set it back to stock speed and voltage with the OEM HSF.

Yea I remember Oskar from my Abit days I believe he worked for Abit MB's before going to or starting DFI MB if I remember correctly and yea that sounds familar about custom BIOS back then.

3.0 on a Newcastle is doable, but not easy. Highly dependent on the chip.

While unrelated, I still have an X2 4200+ and a A8N-SLI Premium that would do 2.7 if I really played around with the settings, or 2.5-2.6 easily. 2.7 was almost unheard of from those chips IIRC.
