anyone regret not become a dentist/pharmacist/etc?

I don't think law is for everyone, certainly not for me so I did not include it.

I work in a corporate setting right now and there's the pressure to perform, avoid layoffs, kiss ass and the money isn't great. It provides high risk/high reward and potential to make lots of money and job satisfaction, but the stress will always be there. I know some friends who are in pharmacy school now and they will get the benefit of being in school for additional 4 yrs and make 120k plus upon graduation. They're probably laughing all the way to the bank.

yea, but looking at peoples teeth or filling drugs for the next 40 years doesnt seem like the winner path

Edit: Timewarped the ninja.

Yea, sometimes I think about why I didn't go into dentistry or pharmacy. Oh well. If you're working corporate there's no reason for you not to apply into those schools if you think you would like to change profession.

getting paid a lot of money to just count pills and take prescription orders doesn't sound too bad to me

My buddy is just finishing Pharm school and he is kinda hating it right now. He is the type of kid who'd easily gotten into Med School and kicked ass and taken names but Pharmacy was the big thing when we were graduating highschool and he got hooked into it.

He has mostly worked in Hospitals and is really sick of being looked at as a pill counter since usually he knows more than those prescribing it (as a current Med Student, I can honestly say he is correct).

Dentistry is actually a pretty difficult field to get into. And Vet school is almost considered to be harder to get into than Medical School.

Pharmacist > Pharmacist Tech. My cousin is a pharmacist, he doesn't count pills, he has pharmacist techs count the pills for him. He makes the big bucks while the techs doesn't.

You're kidding right? I guess depends on what medical school you go to it might be true. I find it hhard to believe that getting into vet school is harder than med school.

Only if a person is willing to do the job, has the training and expertise, and is willing to be a part of the job field. They do get paid a lot and work under pressure.

There are considerably less Vet schools than Med schools. The average chick you meet at a bar who says they want to be a vet... really is going to be a vet tech, kinda like a nurse.

I was never interested in it, but I have often heard it said that it is really a hard field to get into and you have to be pretty freaking smart to take it on.

Med School you learn how to fix one species, a complicated and agitating one, but nevertheless one. Vet school you learn how to fix at least 15 or so, maybe even many more.

EDIT: I did a little more looking and the numbers I found say that pretty much across the board Med v. Vet students are the same in all categories except that Vet admissions is about 33%ish and med is closer to 50%.

Also I wanted to add that Vets also get paid really really really shitty.

Vet school is harder to get into. they also take MCATs also. do some research and you'll see. im trying to get into dental school myself and it's getting harder as the economy gets worse. dental people typically only want to go to dental school but med school students are different. they tend to apply to dental or pharm as back up. so predental students tend to compete against fail premed students also...kinda sucks

Only when the bills are due and I am feeling tight on cash.

I wouldn't want to be a dentist though, I hate the dentist.

Hey cool, what school do you go to?

I am 8 weeks into my police inspector training now at Hong Kong. Used to be a teaching assistant at the University. Came to my current job for the job security.
But now that I have gotten a taste of studying laws, I am actually quite interested at the prospect of becoming a lawyer.
I just can't seem to like whatever job I get and want to try out new professions.

No. I'm still in school right now, but I'm going to need a job later than I'm going to want to go to. I need a job where I get out and actually do something. Sure I could be a dentist or a pharmacist and make good money while I'm at it, but I'm definitely not going to enjoy it. Also, I don't want to spend all those extra years and all the extra money on school. A 4 year undergraduate degree is more than enough for me.

That's why I'm planning on becoming a police officer.

High five mate.
But it's better here in Hong Kong. There's direct entry to become officer rank. I will start off as a patrol sub-unit commander once I pass the training, albeit a difficult training.
