Both the Koran and Bible make slaves out of the minds of men.

Wrong answer.

Who says it's wrong?

Because, if you were to actually read either one of those books with a completely open mind and heart, you would discover that the underlying principle of both religions is Freedom. God grants Free Will. The ability to sin is a gift from God so that we may have the opportunity to choose between good and evil and learn and grow from the experience. It is by the perversion of religion by evil men that people have come to believe that God represents enforced enslavement. Even when a Muslim calls himself a "slave of God," it is important to realize that his "enslavement" is voluntary.

If you think his interpretation of the Koran is dead on, it's apparent you haven't read jack sh*t of it.

the only intelligent post so far on this thread is from ''unjigga'"and of course, i dont see anybody referring to it.
At one point in college i think i had learned the roots of the word religion, and it went something like this...
The Latin roots of the word religion are thought to be re-, meaning "again," and lig-, meaning "join," or "connect" (as in "ligament").
Now, what are we trying to reconnect, of course for those who believe in it, i think it refers to reconnecting the soul to the creator, god, divine source or whatever name you want to call it.
Now, which present day religion does this???
NONE, of course!
They are all concerned in who is right, who's wrong, who gets what land, who can pray the longest, and such mundane things.
Religion in today's world should be perhaps be seen as a re-separation from the creator.

The Quran is not any better/worse than the Bible. Its the radical pig which currently practice and twist is to the extreme who is a problem to the world.

thats what the book tries to deal with. are religious books really all equal. or are we unable to to discuss reality without the sugary platitudes:p are they really extreme if so many "moderates" generally agree with them.

Mani-

The Koran is set up in a different format than most of the books in the Bible. It reads more like a laundry list than a storyline like the Bible and is alot more restrictive in its nature than people give it credit. Some parts of it are very barbaric, but then again so is the early parts of the Old Testament. Other parts are very poetic in a sense. But never, ever, in my wildest dreams, would I consider it inspired like Holy Scripture. The Koran is full of contradictions within itself and has verses more concerned with outright hatred of non-believers that it cannot be misinterpretated in any way other than to mean justification for the death of all non-Muslims. It is also painfully obvious that the Muslim world preached outright abuse of the women when it comes to their treatment. I'm not talking physical abuse, but there are abuses far worse than laying a hand on the woman. Jesus was very fair in his treatment of women and was an open proponent of saving all souls (man or woman) - never did he preach of them as being subhumans. It is unmistakable in the Koran that women have no place in heaven except as the eternal slaves of faithful Islamic menfolk.

I'm calling utter BS unless you can provide a quote that says as much. Then I'll look up my version of the quote, which will doubtlessly be different, and see if there really is truth to that claim.

There is a quote from.. which-I-can't-remember-anymore-because-it-was-a-long-time-ago

It's something like this

"And at the end of the world, only the different will pass the bridge to heaven"

And one day, if you have a chance.. Instead of going on a trip to Bali, make a trip to the Saudi.

Enlighten me where women are tied to the concept of paradise in any way except as objects for faithful men to acquire. I'm prepared to wait a long time.

Chapter 3, paragraph 195:
And their Lord hath heard them (and He saith): Lo! I suffer not the work of any worker, male or female, to be lost. Ye proceed one from another. So those who fled and were driven forth from their homes and suffered damage for My cause, and fought and were slain, verily I shall remit their evil deeds from them and verily I shall bring them into Gardens underneath which rivers flow--A reward from Allah. And with Allah is the fairest of rewards.

Or more simply - in chapter 4 (entitled "Women"), paragraph 192:
And whoso doeth good works, whether of male or female, and he (or she) is a believer, such will enter paradise and they will not be wronged the dint in a datestone.

Your turn. I expect I'll be left waiting even longer.

Entering heaven was not the challenge, the role of women in heaven was the challenge. You've still failed to meet the goal.

But the great Buchanan himself told him it was in there somewhere! Isn't that proof enough?
