I use Chrome for Outlook email. The app sucks.....

Gmail is so much better.

I installed the Outlook app. It works great, but figured I'd ask since the default email app has an option for "Window Live Hotmail" (which does not work)

I used to install the Outlook app, because it was the only way to get shared hotmail calendars to show up in the stock Google Calendars app. Then one day a couple months ago I tried uninstalling Outlook and just using the built in email app and my calendars still worked! So I've kept using that because it works better than the Outlook app, looks better, and matches the GMail app.
Don't use the Windows Mail or whatever for your mail type, use Exchange. There's instructions how to setup the servers, but it works way better than fighting with that built in Windows Mail server type.

Outlook.com app usually works great for email. Very convenient for using aliases as well. I don't use the calendar.

Built in. I don't use the Calendar. Don't use the email all that much anymore either. Works for me.

You like logging in and typing into those tiny textboxes? Jeez, install the app. It kicks ass over Chrome.

It stays logging in on my phone. I'll admit that I pretty much only use my phone for reading email though. If I have to write one, I use a computer. I'm pretty sure that'd still be my SOP if I used the app though.

I use the app, works pretty well. Only gripe is that unlike gmail's app, if you scroll past your usual sync days, it just stops. Gmail will keep moving back and sync as you scroll.

I use the Outlook app. Performance isn't great, but I really hate the native email client for non-gmail.

My hotmail is usually the account where I send all my junk stuff, newsletters, and use for my various online accounts. On the off chance I have to check or reply to something while I'm on my phone I just sign in through chrome. No sense in using the app to sync email I rarely need and waste battery. The online interface is also just fine.

I use the Email app because it sizes the width properly whereas the outlook app does not... horizontal scrolling to read an email is unbearable. But I do have a problem with the regular Email app... and that is it doesn't download the whole message when I open it. So if I scroll down a lot (say a livingsocial email), it reloads the entire email and I lose my place. Someone want to tell me I can make it download the whole email the first time?

It's the only reason I tried the outlook app to begin with... but the horizontal thing is a no-go for me.

Just forward your outlook emails to your Gmail.

I use outlook for non-personal stuff, like signing up for lists and whatever else that's not spam. Reading it through gmail would be fine, except when I want to respond to something, it becomes a problem.

I have the opposite - my gmails are forwarded to my outlook. I also have a Windows Phone and a Surface in use, easier to just have all of my emails go through one place, and I use my outlook email for that.

You can use the "reply as" thing to send it from your Hotmail account even if you've received it in your Gmail.
