anyone reached 4.0ghz with 3.2 prescott air cooling

I am looking to build a combo that will do 4.0ghz stable for as cheaply as possible. I am thinking about a 3.2 prescott with a 875P chipset board or even a 865PE chipset. I will be using air cooling (maybe a Zalmon). The albatron 875p looks like an interesting possibilily for a real good price. Well anyway I would like input from some people that have been able to do this successfully. Any and all input will be appreciated.

I doubt that you'd be able to keep it at 4.0 stable for heavy use without exotic cooling (fans that make your ears bleed or water\phase change). I'd try an Abit AI7 or one of the Asus boards (P4P800E IIRC).

you might be right, i think it will take some luck in getting a 3.2 that will run that high but i built one for my son that will run stable at 3.9 but will not go higher. His board is a msi 865pe. I think your suggestions are very good. I have a asus p4p800 with a 2.8 northwood and I know abit is generally a very good overclocker because of the voltage flexibilty they provide. I would like to keep the cpu voltage as low as possible to help with the temps.
thanks

If you're looking to do some serious encoding then you're headed in the right direction. If you are OC'ing for games you need to look @ AMD.

The DFI 875 board is a great overclocker. You'll need to get to 250 FSB to reach your goal OC so don't forget your high-quality ram. I'd recommend the Thermalright XP-120 if you pick a motherboard it will fit on. For air cooling, 4.0 stable is a lot to ask. 4.0 stable is a fairly high goal altogether from what I understand.

Well, I've OCed my 3.0E to 3.6 stable, but the temps were worrying me so I cut back. Besides, OCing the 9800 gave me the biggest gaming improvement

Here is a link to plenty screenies of people who have hit 4Ghz on the S478 chips. I can hit 4+Ghz, but for daily use I prefer to run at my signatures settings. I am using XP-90 for cooling.
