Anyone put a coppermine in an Abit BX-6 ?

On their site they say you cant stick one in, but i *know* this board can handle the voltage - i even checked out the manufacturer of the VRM thingy at the model on my board can supply it. But i also know the voltage is not really an issue cos you can just use a slocket with a flip chip to bring the voltage down. Now assuming they havent put support for coppermine into that last bios they released for it (ages ago but released when coppermine had been out for a while), why does the BIOS have presets fsb/clock speed options all the way up to 700, when the fastest katmai you can get is 600 ?? So, has anyone put this to the test ? Thanks a lot 🙂

My BX-6 R2 has had a PII 300 at 464, a PII 450 at 633, a PIII 650 at 833, and a PIII 850 at 1054 in it. Pretty good longevity.

My BX6 has a PIII 700 in it. The processor used to run at 784 (7*112) but not in this board.

Coppermines can work just fine in a BX-6, even the original version. BX-6 has a nice voltage adjustment feature. I have one running in my BH6 (very similar board, a little cheaper, same manufacturer, same chipset, same era) right now.

What I don't know, is whether the BX-6 will support a 1/4 PCI divider at 133MHz front side bus if you update it to the latest bios. If you ask Abit, they will tell you no. Of course, Abit will also tell you that the BH6 (my board) does not support a 1/4 PCI divider at 133, BUT IT DOES, WITH THE SS BIOS FLASH!
