Hm, that is a tempting way to upgrade to the PS4 Pro. I do have an HDR-capable 4K TV, and I've heard games like Horizon Zero Dawn are rather nice with HDR. I guess my only question is... if you bring one in for sale, what is required? I guess it's pretty much everything that came with it? Just wondering if I can keep a controller or anything. :p I do keep all the boxes and junk that come with my consoles.

Also, what if you trade in two consoles? I replaced my Xbox One with an Xbox One S, and I don't know if I want to keep the original one. The older console is far less energy efficient... even when in sleep mode. If I wanted two Xbox Ones, I'd really prefer just getting another One S model instead. (They're also just physically smaller!) So, with my old PS4 at $175 + $50 and the Xbox One at $100 + $50, I'm at $375, which is only $25 shy of the PS4 Pro.

They need a controller (doesn't matter if it matches the color), hdmi cable, and power cable. They will probably toss the box out.

I ended up turning the two in, and upgrading to the PS4 Pro for about $60 out the door. You're definitely right that they don't care about the box, but one thing they did want in addition to what you listed is the USB cable for the controller. I know the PS4 had one, but I don't think the Xbox One does? They were mostly surprised at how half the stuff was still unopened in its original packaging. :p I never use the provided HDMI or USB cables as I prefer to use my own. Although, I think they were more surprised that I didn't want the Destiny bundle. :p

As a note, the Gamestop employees weren't 100% sure if I could double up on the $50 credit offer, but it worked without any problem and seemed to be automatic.

Yeah I forgot about that. I do the same thing, keep the boxes, never touch the included cables, earbuds etc.

Had a weird experience today at my local Gamestop store. They asked for ID when I tried to do Apple pay, saying "we aren't supposed to take it" citing people using it for fraud, then they asked for my card and since the numbers Apple gives should be a ghost card and not your actual credit/debit card it doesn't match. The reason this bothered me is because it's more secure than using my card in their machines since they never get my bank info at the merchant level, the fraud falls back to the bank and not the merchant because of the way the cards are added to apple pay so they aren't liable for any supposedly fraudulent purchases in the store using that method, the whole reason for using it is so you don't always have to have your cards on you, just your ID and your phone. So it was quite odd and I wonder if they were giving me a line because they are trying not to support it and want to introduce a proprietary system for mobile payment using their own app. I've never heard of this and never had problems using it before. I have however had issues with merchants getting hacked and losing my CC info or skimming the numbers off the machine so I prefer to use mobile payments when possible like I always do at Best Buy. Not to mention it's a ton faster. The chip readers take forever while Apple Pay or Android Pay is literally 1 second.

I find that disturbing coming from a company that very recently was hacked. The huge benefit, like you state, was that the store gets a single transaction, for a specific amount and nothing else is retained that can be used for fraudulent purposes. Then again Gamestop is all about the next big money making scheme (forced bundles, pushing used games, warranties, etc) and not building an ongoing relationship with their customer.

Console games don't appeal to me anymore, the next gen craze has worn off on me, only console games I'm interested in are sports games since they're mostly only available on console so I still have my XB1 and PS4 but there really aren't any other games on console that i care much about since I game on PC that has a lot of games I like to play. So I'm pretty sure the original consoles can still handle future sports games for its generation lifespan.

The lines have been blurred a bit in recent years between console and pc with more titles being ported to or developed for the pc along side the console game. There are just enough Nintendo and Sony exclusives to keep me satisfied though. Microsoft though really gives me no reason to own an Xbox console.

Crazy price for anyone looking to get a console now.

Well, it's better than the same thing for $250. The only thing is that if you can wait two and a half months, you're better off just buying a Black Friday deal. I mean... Amazon sold the Xbox One S with an extra controller and two games for $230, and that was three months ago. We will likely see a deal that's about as good if not better during Black Friday.

Although, I'm wondering if we'll see any sort of discount on the Xbox One X? It comes out so close to that time period that it might be a bit of a slap in the face to current buyers. If anything, I bet you'll just get a free game as long as you buy the new console before the end of the year, or something like that.

I haven't touched my xbox one since I bought it. Bought like 4-5 exclusives for it and played them a few times. With most games available on PC I don't see the need other than playstation exclusives.
