If they're saying it's the next Halo, then avoid it like the plague... that game blew. Halo 2 however will be great, because they're actually being given proper development time and not having to force it out for the launch of the Xbox. Hopefully they wont decide to repeat rooms in levels over and over, as well as going back through the same levels a second time. Halo had great potential, but it failed. The developers at Bungie even admitted it stunk and are surprised that everyone thinks it's the best game in the world.
Purely opinion
And I don't think Bungie ever said it stunk, Halo is their baby and they really make it seem like that.
Fact is, I still play Halo several times a week, sometimes every day for long stretches. I think the level you're talking about with repeating rooms is Assault on the Control Room. Funny thing is, this is my most-played level in the entire game. The outdoor areas totally make up for it. I never really play single though, it's always co-op with someone
I can't get bored of Halo. I constantly trade in other games that are great but Halo is never gonna leave.
I think what makes it so good is that
every single game I play is different. Different things happen all the time. The enemy AI is legendary (no pun intended), especially on the upper two difficulties. They always surprise you. There's all kinds of tricks you can learn too like warthog jumping
This aside, Halo 2 will own everything.
Back to the topic....every other review of Brute Force is around 90% or higher except for IGN and Gamespot. Well, I don't trust Gamespot's xbox reviews in the first place so let's just leave them out of this. Feedback is good on forums I've checked....I'll probably end up getting it.
I think the problem with some reviewers was they were reviewing it as a game it really isn't. They think it was supposed to be some advanced, deep squad-based tactical shooter. Fact is it's just another shoot-em-up that lets you switch characters. If they reviewed it as that I think it would've gotten better scores.
