I've been playing it for about 45 mins now, and (so far) it's an excellent game.

It may have been better as a FPS, but I'm ok with it being third-person.

I'm looking forward to getting together with three of my friends and really testing this baby out. :)

The game looks pretty damn nice, I enjoyed what I have played of it so far, I only played the first two levels, but it seems pretty sweet, I am gonna get 3 of my friends to play it with me on friday night. The game definately would have been better as a fps, but as it is now, the game is pretty good. I would like it if one of the xbox live updates includes a view changer so that you can make it first person view.

In fact, just earlier this week I finally finished beating every level on every difficulty level. There were some boring parts, yes, but quite an enjoyable experience. I'm waiting for my DSL to get hooked up Monday to get on XBC and play it :) Half Life 2 will no doubt be innovative and fun, but a lot slower in terms of gameplay and action. Plus it'll take a top of the line computer just to play HL2 decently.
STOP FLAMING ME YOU JERK!!! :)
(I never thought you were, theres nothing wrong with having a heated discussion about games... unless a lovely lady is nearby in which case, said discussion should change to "how bout them yankees?")

Anyways, whats the verdict? Any real love for BF or is it just another decent game?

If they're saying it's the next Halo, then avoid it like the plague... that game blew. Halo 2 however will be great, because they're actually being given proper development time and not having to force it out for the launch of the Xbox. Hopefully they wont decide to repeat rooms in levels over and over, as well as going back through the same levels a second time. Halo had great potential, but it failed. The developers at Bungie even admitted it stunk and are surprised that everyone thinks it's the best game in the world.
Purely opinion :)

And I don't think Bungie ever said it stunk, Halo is their baby and they really make it seem like that.

Fact is, I still play Halo several times a week, sometimes every day for long stretches. I think the level you're talking about with repeating rooms is Assault on the Control Room. Funny thing is, this is my most-played level in the entire game. The outdoor areas totally make up for it. I never really play single though, it's always co-op with someone

I can't get bored of Halo. I constantly trade in other games that are great but Halo is never gonna leave.

I think what makes it so good is that every single game I play is different. Different things happen all the time. The enemy AI is legendary (no pun intended), especially on the upper two difficulties. They always surprise you. There's all kinds of tricks you can learn too like warthog jumping ;)

This aside, Halo 2 will own everything. :D

Back to the topic....every other review of Brute Force is around 90% or higher except for IGN and Gamespot. Well, I don't trust Gamespot's xbox reviews in the first place so let's just leave them out of this. Feedback is good on forums I've checked....I'll probably end up getting it.
I think the problem with some reviewers was they were reviewing it as a game it really isn't. They think it was supposed to be some advanced, deep squad-based tactical shooter. Fact is it's just another shoot-em-up that lets you switch characters. If they reviewed it as that I think it would've gotten better scores.

lol, I certainly hope so! It's just been a tedious process reinstalling everything - the ethernet card I have (Linksys) has always f-ed up my computer the past two times I've installed it (never off a fresh format/install though) so I've had to painstakingly install everything and run some checks/tests to see if my computer is still working correctly. I get to do all this fun tomorrow again on my other computer :|

Is it playable via Live or XBC/Gamespy Arcade, or you're not sure?

Not via Live, but it promises to offer "downloadable content". I have no idea about the other methods.

Nope... I'm not even sure what XBC is (I presume it's like Gamespy.) If it's better than Gamespy, then I'll give it a shot.

http://www.xbconnect.com/

It provides a similar service to Gamespy Arcade (I never tried GA so I don't know what it offers per se) - XBC lets you play pretty much any System Link or Live game over the net without Live. You think you're good in Halo multiplayer? From what my cousin has been telling me, some of these guys are pretty damn good.

Oh - I just got my DSL hooked up :) Apparently it was available today after all :) If you ever want to get a game going my AIM SN is hackamsc. I think my Live name is angrymarshmello

I'm liking this game so far. Not as fast paced and immersive as Halo, and they penalize the crap outta you when you die (which happens VERY unexpectedly...probably since I'm playing on Hard) but in most respects the gameplay is all but identical.

The voiceover and characters are fantastic!

Like I said, you can't just get "into" it like Halo.. Because you have to keep switching characters you don't ever leave the mindset of "I'm playing a game"

Because Halo has you in control of one character only, you develop that focus which really gets you into the game. At least, that's what my feeling is.

I picked it up at Best Buy yesterday (along with WarioWare, Inc for GBA which is just stupidly addicting) and I've played for about an hour or so. So far, I really dont see it in my fav's column. It's pretty, but it's just another action game.

my friend bought me the game for my b-day. i'm really enjoying it, but i think i should have played it on another difficulty level than brutal - bleh. my one complaint is that you can't choose what character you want to be - pretty dumb IMO.

Um, yes you can. You press the directional control pad in the direction of the character you want to control (up = tex, down = brutus, left = hawk, right = flint) If you haven't gotten the characters yet (the first level or two is just tex, then you get brutus, then a couple levels after you get hawk, then flint) you obviously can't use them

After having played this game more, I'm quite disappointed with it. It's average at best. The controls are a lil frustrating. The weapons suck. Your teammates are kind of stupid no matter if you have them follow you, stay in one spot, fire at will, etc. I guess I'm just miffed because this game would have been more effectively done via first person as opposed to third.

oh sh!t, awesome! w00t.

i was also going to say that it's stupid that you can't command your team (like in ghost recon) but from your post, i gather that it's also possible. can you explain how?(forgive my n00bness, i skipped through the tutorial messages).

and about the 3rd person comment, i actually disagree. i'm a huge fan of fps, but i have to say that i enjoy the format of this particular game.

Well hold down the directional pad in any direction for a second or two - the game will pause and you'll see your XY/AB/black/white buttons listed with commands for each - you can have the chracters follow you (shoot only when you do or you get fired upon), fire at will (full on melee assault on anyone), stand ground (they stay there at that one spot unless you go move too far away, good for reconing an area with Hawk-invisible mode) and move to (have a certain character move to a certain spot)

Just make sure you select all/the right characters for the commands (they'll be highlighted in red on the left) Did ya not read the instruction manual? ;)

I'd enjoy the format of the game better too if it controled slightly better. It seems like whenever I run the character always ends up looking in some random direction for some reason. They tried to make it more realistic to where the weapons recoil a lil bit and you move around a lil when you shoot (when you're sniping you move ala Splinter Cell style sniping) And I think the team concept/aspect is a little lost. Maybe it's the difficulty level but so far I've been able to rock through all the levels mostly using Tex and no one else. I used Hawk a bit in the first level you get her in for the invisibility purposes but her frickin' blade takes up too much stamina, making her invisibility useless except to scout the area.
