Anyone played black shark?

I can't play this game on my laptop and can't access the rig in sig, but I want to know if someone has played this on high settings and if it's really as graphically appealing as the reviews made it out to be...a game that has a 400 page instruction manual is music to my ears (not normal, I know)...besides, I always liked chopper sims (longbow, etc.)

If it's good I'll buy a copy and hold it for a year...they said they'd introduce new choppers every few months so that'll mean that there'll be more than just the black shark to fly when I play.

So is it graphically appealing?

Having played this game for over a month, I must say it's by far the best military flight sim to date.
It needs a serious gaming rig to show case it.
Even my gaming rig is not far from the best but I must tune down AA/AF in order to get decent FPS.
Oh btw, "The Russians are coming!"

I thought I had read somewhere that each additional chopper/airplane was going to be a standalone product. Can anyone confirm? Not a big fan of choppers (I can't hover or land them precisely for the life of me in MS Flight Simulator), but if they come out with DCS: Warthog or whatever the A-10 one will be called, I might jump aboard.

Do not quote me but apparently the A10 Warthog is in the work for the add-on.
Here are the A10 Warthog screen shots.

To say my jaw dropped when I saw these pictures is understatement.

Amber: Get the game now and put it in easy avionics/flight controls and you'll fly the BS like a 20yrs veteran aviator.
Yes, it's that easy but hell no if you're in the actual real flight mode.

I've been looking for a good helo sim for a long time, long time... I just purchased it from D2D (no way am I waiting for the DVD, I only have another week off before school) and it says "30 min remaining" on the download. I sure hope it's as good as it looks.

I'll report back later...

If you're rig in sig is what you're playing on then I think you answered my question...my rig isn't "bad" per say, but you'd blow me out of the water...if you don't get decent FPS' then I'm going to wait for the next gen GPU's and CPU's to play this game...I'll buy it to show the company respect for what they've accomplished, but I think it'll collect dust for at least 6 months...

Ill tell you that besides the helicopter models (both exterior and cockpit) are the best I've ever seen...almost on the brink of being real life...thats about it...

The ground textures and well, just about everything else about the game looks Flight Simulator 2000-ish. No real hard core shaders or anything other than whats on the helicopter models...just over all kinda "meh".

The actual game play is very good...like you said, theres a 400 page manual for a reason LOL!

The 3D cockpit looks really good to me - I kind of wish there was a demo out, so I could try it out with TrackIR (I have seen the video of TIR being used).

There were some noticeably jagged shadows being cast. And like AndroidVageta said, the terrain looks so-so, but I wasn't all that impressed with the default terrain in FSX either. With the huge amount of terrain being covered, I don't think you can make things super detailed in flight sims.

I haven't seen any terrain I was really impressed by other than the Blackhawk flyover of Mexico City in GRAW1, and they were working with a very limited geographic area to model, so they could spend the time to flesh it out instead of using satellite imagery for textures. Even HAWX, which looks impressive from high up, still looked kind of bad when you were flying low.

This game needs the best g/c there is out there in order to see all of its glories and goodness.
Average g/c makes it look like crap.
I now need to justify myself for a new and more powerful rig than what I already have.
Upgrade time?

Played it for just over an hour yesterday, took two tutorials and then an "instant action" mission.

1. Starting the helo is a royal PITA. I hope there is a shortcut instead of going through that process all the time.
2. Cockpit is detailed as hell, beautifully done. (Helo looks great from the outside as well.)
3. Simulation mode is simulation mode, I don't recommend it unless you are really comfortable flying helo's.
4. MFD's are great, the TV viewing for targeting is really well done.
5. Ground texture is average, nothing special. You have to remember though this is a flight sim, not a graphics showcase.

I will fly some more today and try to get a better grasp on it, but as far as helo flight sims go, it gets two thumbs up. My computer runs it on high settings (I clicked the "High Graphics" preset button) without any problems, great FPS. I have a dual core 6850, 8GB ram, and two 512GB 8800GTS video cards.

P.S. I think trackIR would be great with this game. I have the original model but it's in a box somewhere...

Make sure you get yourself a decent joy stick to go with it too.
I just dumped my LT Wingman one for a Thrustmater T1600 which gives me a better grip at this thing (helo).

I was doing a tutorial, these are the simple steps to send your wingman out to take a look around.

1MB pic.

Look at the instructions in the upper-right corner, lmao.

Haven't had the chance to play this in quite awhile, but it's great with TrackIR. Runs well (but not maxed) with whats in my sig.

There is a shortcut for starting up, it's "Win" + PageUp or Dwn(try Home, End too, it's one of those!) can't remember exactly. Still takes 30 seconds or so, but the computer runs through it all for you.

With my rig I run everything max and don't really have any FPS issues, I haven't benchmarked it however.

Game is great, though only one campaign works with Vista, the others have issues with objectives and some of the mission triggers.

For the hardcore only though, if you don't have a HOTAS don't bother.

My comp specs are in my post just above this one. (at the bottom) And I run it at 1900x1200.

EDIT: The specs inside my quoted text that is.

Is the game like FSX where there are mini missions that don't build on one another or is there a campaign feature that is in depth? That's the only thing holding me back. FSX is ok, but I like campaigns in flying and there aren't any military sims (real sims like Janes was, not HAWX) out there.

You can tailor your own campaign to your taste/liking. (This I have not yet tried)
Or you can play the already built-in ones too.
