It's beginning to grow. I started playing a little more than a year now around Tampa, Fl and so far I've been as far as North Carolina for some pretty intense tournaments. Granted, half the nation is covered in feet of snow, but I just wanted to see how popular it was elsewhere.

You can't drive through the UF campus without seeing a game going on (they were National Champs last years in the college division) and Miami is home to US's Worlds team that is composed of some of the best players from all over that head overseas once a year to compete in the big international tournament.

www.upa.org is the official governed organization that hosts the big events.
www.bayareaultimate.com is the website I administer for our locals.

How big is it where you guys are?

There's an ultimate frisbee course at a nearby park here but I've never played it. It's a college town so I assume the students are in to it.

Yeah its actually bigger in for college towns than for non. We just recently went to Savannah, GA to play in a big event that had both Open and College events going on at the same time. I play in a pickup open team that just competes in the Open events all over the south east. I could play for my college but I hate to say it, they suck... we beat our college's men's team and as an Open team 3/7 people on the field have to be girls.

are you sure that isnt a frisbee golf course? ultimate frisbee is played in a field and not really a "course"

Oh the game has definately been around since the 60s, but the way it has progressed in the last 5 years is outstanding. Nationally televised events, world tournaments, etc.. its starting to get great.

Me and my buddy were looking for a sports team/league for a while. We're both 21, so basically there is almost nothing available to us to choose from. Some girl told me about an ultimate frisbee league. She said there's a lot of average joes, ranging from 16 to around 50 years of age. and various skill levels, some people who haven't played before, also it was a coed league. Me and my friend decided to give it a shot. I had previously played Ultimate frisbee a little in high school, so I was somewhat familiar with it. Game day came around and we were the first to show up, even though we were right on time. The games got started about an hour later. This wasn't part of the league yet, this was just one of the two pickup games played weeks before the league started. We thought it'd be best to see if we like it and learn all the rules and stuff. When everyone started coming to play, we quickly noticed how in shape everyone else was. Me and my friend aren't in good shape, which is one of the reasons we were looking to join a sports team of some sort. Finally after a lot of disorganization, we got started. A 6 on 6 match, all guys. It turns out, all other people except for about 1 other guy were in great shape, and were very experienced players. So we're like WTF, and people are giving us a bunch of shiz about not doing things right and all this other BS, even though they new we were new players and obviously out of shape, since we were sweating hard, and huffin 'n puffin about 5 minutes into the game. We played for about an hour and left confused. This league was supposed to be a mix of experienced and out of shape players, but about everyone besides me and my buddy was a pro player and look like they ran triathlons everyday. They were throwing upside down passes and all other sorts of crazy crap.

So that sucked. The sport sucks too IMO, I remember liking it a lot in high school, but I guess that was just compared to algebra and study hall. Ultimate friz is kind of a wussy sport, but you need to be in real good shape. If I liked the sport at all I might keep at it, but I didn't like it. I just like throwing the frisbee around.

We'll probably just have to start our own sports team since there's about nothing to choose from around the city for guys our age (only youth and senior leagues). We'd like to play team baseball/softball team. We're going to try and find a racquetball league to play in, will probably be senior stuff only though.

I have a tournament in a week. All right, it's an indoor tournament, and it's 5 on 5, but whatever.

I played on both my high school and college teams, but the nearest club is a 30 minute drive away, and I have two kids now.
