So many people were talking about this game last week that I went to play it for myself. I got it from Best Buy for 50 bucks (by the way if anyone is interested they had No One Lives Forever for 19 and Sanity (the game w/Ice T) for 4.99)

But anyway on with my story, I played the game for about 4 hours on Saturday and another 3 on Sunday. BW is no doubt a very well thought out game, lots of little side missions and other activities to keep you drawn in. I think the graphics are really well done, especially when you zoom in close on certain areas.

My only complaint is that my game kept freezing, so I ended up starting from almost near the beginning. And to make matters worse my hard drive died, which probably was wy my game kept freezing. Basically so now I have to reload everything and start from scratch again.

Has anyone:
figured out the musical stone problem?
returned the lost sheep?
found the kidnapped children?
got their creature to grow?
saved all the drowning people?
prevented the tiger from eating people randomly?

I spent some time playing it, to much time way to much time, I´m now in world 3. Anyone know what happens when you finish the 5 worlds?

Yes, did the stones.

Yes, did the sheep.. found them more like. Hint if you find all the sheep you can change your creature for a sheep.

Yes, did the chi... "FOUND" the children.

No, didnt want to spend that much time on that island.

Yes, saved them all.

No, dont have a tiger, I have the monkey, so every once in a while I go and slap my monkey :p

I bought it Friday and played for a while, but it really kinda frustrates me. Eventually I switched over to playing the full version of Duke Nukem 3D that came with this month's PC Gamer - just another reminder that I have the attention span of a toddler!

I love the game, with a few caveats. :) Played maybe a total of 10 hours or so.

My Gripes:

Camera controls suck. IMO. I'm still getting used to them, but man.. it takes forever to say, get wood from a forest a good distance away or something. Grr.

The endless micromanagement of mundane chores. WTF? I don't play a game to do work, I play it to have fun. Things like having to CONSTANTLY scroll to the worship site to refill it with grain (and of course you only get told that their out AFTER someone dies) suck, and should not be neccessary. Perhaps I'm missing something, and I can task someone to just run grain up there, but I havn't figured that out yet. Also having to move your mouse in crazy patterns sucks hard too. Why not have freaking buttons for the spells.. It would take 1/8th the time, and man.. the spell ALLREADY HAVE ICONS ON THE SCREEN. Why can't I just click them?! It's not like they're saving screen real-estate or anything.

Creatures: Grr. This is just me though. :( My creature sucks, I lack the patience to figure out how the hell I'm supposed to do anything useful with him. He's a dumbass anyways. Why should I have to feed the stupid thing? Why can't he walk about and find some sheep or grain to munch on. AND WHY does he INSIST on eating villagers? I slap him every time I see him do it, but he still does. I also pet him when he eats something I approve of, but blah. He's always constantly dehydrated, and I can't figure out how the hell to get him to fscking drink when he's thirsty. WAY too much micomanagement there. Perhaps it will get better, as I'm just getting into this. But currently he's kidnapped. :p And honestly, it's not been any harder at all to do anything w/o him. Useless thing.

Other than that, I love the game. The premise is great.

I played it ALL weekend. ABout the camera...I hated it at first..almost ruined the game for me. Now I'm an expert with it and love it...the key is to use your keyboard to do most of the moving.

lmao @ phil, my creature is essentially the same way. I think you have to alternate between the leash of compassion and the leash of learning to really train the creatures. I taught mine how to make breeders and to throw sheep in the village center. It's a riot, he picked up a cow and I thought he was gonna eat it at first but then he takes off running toward the village center and then he flings the cow into it. It was hilarious watchin him do that a few times.

how do you get off of the first island?

arkitech: heheh, I did (somehow) teach him to throw grain into the village store, but thats about the only useful thing I've ever seen him do. Oh, he also waters the grain fields once in a while with a miracle water. He knows wood too, but he never casts it. :(

What I'd really like him to do, is re-purpose people according to the demand of the flags. Also replenish that damn worship site when it needs it (this has to be the most annoying thing on earth to do.). You will know what I mean shortly, when you get off the first island. :)

How to get off? Have you found that bear creature yet? If not, go looking and do all the silver scroll quests you see (actually, I didn't complete many, but I opened them). Then find the bear creature and do all his silver scrolls. His last scroll gets you to a new place via some unconventional means. :) So, that was a semi-sploiler, but not too bad.

peace,

LMAO Phil21!!! :D

I thought some of the same things. I probably played about the same amount of time as you.

I do wish there was a faster way to move a long distance in the world. Like keys that would take you directly to storage centers, or worship sites.

I also wish my villagers were smarter about starting tasks. A lot of them just end up "Chilling out" or "Looking at miraculous tree" and I have to find them something useful to do.

My creature is kind of a dumbass too. I chose the cow, and even he ate a few villagers before I knew what was going on. And when I had to save those drowning people on the first world, he let a few of them drown and the lady got pissed at me. He'd pick up a guy and inspect him for a while. Oh well, at least he didn't eat them. :p After a while, I didn't seem to have to feed him as often. There was a while where he kept dying because he wouldn't eat what I'd give him. I finally found some mushrooms that he seemed to enjoy. Oh, and then the moron ate one of my quests! There was a hermit that I was supposed to impress with my creature. So I brought him over to the guys house and showed my cow how to throw the guy, thinking that might impress him. Well, it didn't, and while I was trying to figure out what I could do that might impress him, my cow walked over, picked him up and ate him.

Even as frustrating as it can be, it is a helluva funny game.

Forgot to mention this, but it had me laughing. :)

I was just messing around with the learning leash, trying to get my cow to do something. I grabbed a tree and planted it near the town so my villagers had some wood to chop. Then my cow ran over and grabbed a tiny little shrub (being the puny bovine that he is) and planted it next to mine. That had me practically in tears laughing. :D

boberfette: Haha, that quest thing is funny as hell. :)

Prolly one of the funniest things he did was just go around picking poeple up, looking at them for a bit, and setting them back down. I dunno why exactly that's funny to me, but it is. :p

I've also found out I don't have the patience to be a perfectly benevolent god. When taking over villages, instead of slow gaining belief, I tend to throw a few fireballs to start a massive fire (usually worth 80), put out the fires with water (about 60), heal the people that are still alive (about 50), wait for their wood to be depleted from trying to build the city back up after the massive fire (hehe) (about 100), then steal all their food, let them sit for a bit, and then use a miracle to re-fill a few times (about 150 in 3-4 spell casts). Also I've found the ring of protection around a building, then throwing some massive rocks at it makes for some good belief points with a minimal amount of effort, and it doesn't even kill poeple! :)

In essence I create my OWN demand, and then supply them. :)

I also could NOT resist seeing what would happen if I put a person into that scraficial altar thay guy offers his son for. ;) It nets you a whole ton of prayer power!

But all in all, I TRY to be nice. most of my evilness is just from laziness though. :p Once I have a village in my fold, they generally are fairly well taken care of. Unless their worshippers, in which case they go hungry a lot because I personaly think 20,000 food should last more than freaking 10 minutes there@#$@#$

peace,

-Phil

The same thing happened to me, my monkey ate the hermit.

Though my animal is extremely dumb in one way he is very smart in others. He casts water, heal, food and wood when there is need. But not on the prayer place so I still have to pick up some food and feed them.

The dumb thing is that he WONT EAT, whenever he is hungry "I" have to pick up some food, give it to him and rub his belly, if not then he just dies of hunger. Stupid animal.

To show how great my animal is then on land 2 he actually picked up a horse and walked very far where the big bad wolf was and kissed him and gave him the horse. Then they went dancing together. On top of all that the wolf's god is the prime enemy there.

And two hints, when you have a norse village then build their wonder, it gives you soooo much extra when creating food and wood, like 6000-7000 each time !!!

Then when you get "flock of birds" or whatever learn that, make your creature learn that, it is the most efficiant way of gaining worship. When you cast it over a enemy village you get 50-150 worship points.

to get you creature to grow, have him carry rocks around. He still grows slowly so you might not notice him. Just check his strength, get it as high as posible. He will also get better in fights
