I've never played a final fantasy game in my life, but I will see it for the animation.

I want to see it, I am just worried that the movie will fall into the vidgame-to-movie death trap :(

I'm certainly going... I just hope the story will be as good as everything else looks.

"b.s. animation"

Huh? That's an odd reaction.

I saw the commercial and they said it will be release on July 11, 2001. Thats kinda odd cuz most movies comes out on friday and july 11, 2001 is a Wednesday. Regardless I prolly go c it at lunch time. There is a theater 3 blocks from my office. hehehe.

The movie looks like it will kick ass.
as for the animation, why is it bs? it is sposed to be the most lifelike human representation in a movie done through CG so far.
I dont think that this will fall into the video game/movie rut because although the individual games did have some linkage to each other, most of the time they were pretty much unrelated. which allows itself for a very broad interpretation on the movies part.

You know whats weird? I loved the FF series up until about FFVII (I guess when it hit PSX)... and now I can't find myself able to sit through a 30+ hour game.

I'm still gonna go see this movie.

the movie looks great!
It does not have any relation with any Final Fantasy game... but it does have a relation with the story line. All Final Fantasy games talk about the meaning of life, true love, etc. And the story line of the movie is something like it.

Anyways, It looks awesome. I read somewhere that it took a whole month just to make 5 minutes of the movie.

HKSturboKID, they might be releasing the movie on the Wednesday to so that they can generate income during two extra days in order to boost their first weekend's earnings. It's a marketing trick that could potentially get them the 1# spot at the box office for that week and some ammunition for their second round of marketing (ie: Moviegoers made Final Fantasy the #1 movie in America last weekend blah, blah, blah...)

it looks liek great animation..

but it seems like it has more of a Starcraft plot to it.....

I thought Final Fantasy movie would be summoning.. and magic casting.. cuz that's what FF was all about..

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw the trailer and what it'd be about, disappointed me a bit, but I hope they came up with something close to a good storyline like their games

I love the final fantasy series like any other fan, but so far from what I've seen of the previews, I'm extremely disappointed. The movie looks great, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't fit the "final fantasy" theme. It's a technology based movie (roger, seen that in final fantasy 7 and 8) but if there is no magic at all, then it just can't be considered Final Fantasy. That's one of the biggest appeals to the series, FANTASY. If it does have magic in the movie though, then I won't be so disappointed.

But if it doesn't...then how can you possibly consider it being "Final Fantasy"???

You do realize that something doesn't have to have magic, castles, and dragons to be considered "fantasy"? Fantasy refers to things that are make-believe or imagined, and this can just as easily be applied to futuristic worlds as it is to medieval folklore (Sci-Fi is essentially a sub-genre of fantasy).

This movie is certainly "fantasy".

I think the point is though, that a lot of us expect it to be more of the type of Final Fantasy fantasy that we're used to seeing in the games, who knows though, maybe it's just a part of the movie that they haven't stuck in the trailers yet...

Final Fantasy never really had any story line that continued into another FF. The story (Technology, magic, relationships, and conflict) is one of the central elements of the series. I'd have to aggree that FF7 and FF8 sucked royal a$$ with overly serious and simutaneously chessy story lines however. 6 and 9 were good.

Tomb Raider, Super Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, had little to go on besides some trivial connection with the game series. Mortal Kombat probably did better than most game-movie conversions of getting something somewhat decent out of a game license.
