Anyone owned a Viper?

Can't say that I have. You might want to check with some local zoo's to see what is involved with keeping a Viper at home. Do they eat rats?
 
I think it's pretty much universally agreed that they're unrefined, rough, brash machines.

...if that appeals to you, they're some of the biggest kick in the pants that exist.
 
You might want to start by gifting yourself the ability to understand it's a ZX636. Not whatever the hell you put in your sig.
 
I have an 04 Mamba that I break out in the summer. I've only put about 8k miles on it myself. I have overall enjoyed it but it's just not that much fun on a longer trip. It's much less drivable than a 'vette and for the same price as a viper you can have the vette every bit as fast anyway. It does turn heads but not as much as my dad's Ford GT.
 
I'm working on picking up an 04 White Mamba in the next 6 months or so. They really are every bit as back breaking as theysay they are, but man do they go when you step on it. If you're going to be putting any large amount of miles on it, save yourself and get a hopped up vette for the same cost.
 
Off-topic, but the ZX-6R is the 636cc version, the ZX-6RR is the 599cc version. It can be referred to as a ZX-6R.

Edit: Also, no experience with a Viper. Jealous though, it's a car I've always wanted to own 🙂 Good luck!

I'm a bit young and vain, and I like the overall look of the Viper better. It would just be a toy, so I'm not overly concerned with the interior ergos as going out and having fun (legally of course).

Nobody has legal fun in a viper, it isn't possible.

The (modern) ZX6R and ZX6RR use the same 599cc engine. The ZX636 was the 636cc engine utilized in ZX6R models between the years 2003 and 2006. Because the 2007 and beyond ZX6R went back to the 599cc inline 4, the proper way to identify the bikes has been to refer to the ZX6R as any 599cc model and the 636cc model as ZX636. This is subsequently the naming convention utilized in most parts magazines I've seen.

Is it official? Probably not. But my observations show they clearly utilize 3 different model names to separate the 3 different bikes.

My understanding is that Vipers require frequent and costly engine maintenance that is more in line with true supercars than more pedestrian cars like Corvettes or 911s. I'd do some research before even considering investing in one of these cars.

I'd actually be surprised by that given the V10's being based on the LA engine, which was about 40 years old when the Viper was born.

I just read about it and JD Power gave it "mediocre". Repair costs on some parts didn't seem terrible, though. Shocks/struts were $3k which isn't cheap, but clutch plate $1k, ac compressor $750, etc.

He has a 2005 zx6r, which is inherintly a 636 motor. They also made a zx6rr which was a 600. I do think it's important to note that his zx6r is a 636 since many non-riders do not know which years/models had the larger motors.
 
Definitely will not be that guy... been driving RWD V8's for 6 years (well, a V6 now, but it's only temporary!)

I totally disagree, I owned an 05 (put 20k on it in the first year) and am a regular on many bike forums - kawiforums included. IMHO to say ZX6R 636 is fine, and you must get off on being a d-bag.
