Has anyone owned or know much about the Sony Vaio SZ series?

I believe they came out with their 3rd gen models just a couple months back. They now have the Core 2 Duo, 2 GB Ram, 120GB HD...basically more powerful components while still housing the sleek/lightweight casing.

I'm looking at this one. Sony SZ360P

It's really expensive, but I checked it out at Fry's today and it really is gorgeous. I haven't read any reviews or found any except the one on amazon's website. Seems like a lot of the initial annoyances were ironed out from the first two generations.

But yeah, just wondering if anyone has owned one or knows much about them. I would love to get this laptop for it's ultra portable size and sleekness.

I had a SZ340 series. Techonweb had it for just under $1300, and it was eligible for the Sony tradeup program deal ($600 off with any old Sony laptop traded in). It was a C2D 1.6, 60gig, and had a combo drive. The casing was magnesium and it seemed very sturdy and light. I probably would've kept it if I hadn't found a pretty good deal on a D620.

Cool thanks for the input.

The 360p actually has that carbon fiber casing and the lcd is thinner than the 340.

I just wish it wasn't so damn expensive.

I have the sz360. You should check out the forums at www.notebookreview.com. They have a Sony board there with the info you need.

nice. thanks.

how much did you pay for yours? And do you like it a lot?

I paid nothing for it :) Employer did actually. I think it was $2200. So far I like it a lot other than the software bloat. Have to find time to clean it up.

aw man, damn, free lappy nice haha.

Yeah I headr the software is a pain to clean up, but other than that, the 3rd gen SZ series is really solid.

how's the battery life?

Well battery life varies depending on which gpu I'm using. On the nvidia 7400 I get about 2.5hrs. Using the on board video about 3.2hrs. Haven't really timed it so this is a really rough estimate. I really like the screen, its really clear and sharp with very little glare considering the shinny surface.

I'm currently in the market for a medium spec. notebook from a good brand and have nearly all but decided on the VAIO SZ32GP/B. It's big selling points are the small and light magnesium body, built-in webcam, multilanguage user interface and switchable video card. The model we have here only comes with 512MB of ram which is its downfall in my opinion. The 80GB hard drive is enough for me as is the C2D technology. Does anyone have any bad points to raise about this model?

if you can, splurge for the 360/370 one. It's lighter and the LCD is thinner. Plus it has carbon-fiber casing. Amazon has it for $1999 AR.

But i read that: 1) battery is an issue that it drains too fast even when laptop is off, 2) there is a slight grounding issue where when you touch the casing, you can feel a tingle, and 3) the power adapter is a brick.
