Anyone own or know much about saltless water softners?

Currently I'm leasing one and now I'm thinking about just buying one. I saw an option was the saltless one. Not having to haul salt everyone month would be worth a premium.

Saltless water softeners are not water softeners. They are water conditioners. You'll be greatly disappointed if you are looking for soft water and spent thousands on a salt free conditioner.

Every month? I was under the impression that the newer water softeners could go several months on a single load of salt?

They do, if calibrated properly and optimized for the specific water quality.
Very few (none from big box stores) come calibrated or optimized and some brands aren't even capable of being reprogramed by the end user.
Mine goes 6 months before I really need to think about checking salt level.

Good info here, but take the time to read and research before posting there, and you'll get better and more specific answers the first time. ;)
