Anyone own one of Acer's new Timelime series?

Oh wow, that's a lot of performance in an ultra-portable all-day notebook! I wonder which SSD they're using? Newegg only lists Intel X25-M (and the Kingston rebrand) for that capacity, which would make it awesome. $250 more than the cheapest Timeline but it comes with a $230 SSD, 1GB more RAM and doubles the cores.

another timeline sighting and looks like its on sale? Text

also reading from the comments at engadget it looks like various timeline notebooks are being sold at frys, staples, radio shack sams and walmart

It is the Intel X25-M (G1):

I'm extremely tempted by this model. Before, you were paying $300 more than the base model just to move from single to dual core...but now you get an X25-M for the same price (or $100 less actually). I just might buy one soon...

Does anyone know if the trackpad supports two finger scrolling via hacked drivers? If it does, I'm gonna buy the first dual core 14" I can get my hands on...

those pictures in the links above, the sticker says 'gesture touch' and looks like two fingers

I have had my 13" Timeline with the SU2700 (1.3GHz single core) for over a month now and it is a great machine. Also on Windows 7 with epower tweaks installed at lowest brightness and wifi on I get an astounding 9 hours of real world usage (web surfing, office, listening to music). I got it for $550 when Fry's had it on sale so for the price you really can't ask for more. As for the touchpad buttons yes they are very stiff and take some getting used to. I installed the twofingerscroll app from google code though and now I just use 2 finger scrolling and 2 finger right click just like the macbooks so I haven't used the buttons in a long time. Also there have been reports that the 13" models comes with a spare PCI-E port and people have installed WWAN cards with success as all the systems come with a SIM card slot where the battery is. You can order WWAN 3G cards for as low as $50 on ebay so it's a good option if you don't want to sign a contract with a wireless carrier.

Sweet! Let us know how it works out and try some gaming on it. I tried gaming on a desktop board with the Intel X4500 IGP and games... worked... at 1680x1050. Not too pretty but definately better than my MSI netbook.

i really like the spec sheet on these. i think i'd like the 14" model. or i could spend 2x as much and get a macbook. or 3x as much and get a somewhat portable gaming laptop (dell studio xps 16) with 1/3 the battery life.

frankly battery life is probably more important than gaming.

decisions decisions.

I've been trying to figure out which way I'm gonna go for about a week, XPS 16, Macbook Pro/Air, something else. I ended up ordering the 13" Timeline with the 80GB SSD. Should be about the perfect size for me. Definitely not a primary computer, but it should be a perfect complement for a desktop. I probably would have ended up with the Macbook Pro as my sole/primary, but the low screen resolution, mini-displayport annoyance, and I don't want to try to get acclimated to a Mac right now (and battery life suffers way too much under Vista/XP) made me decide against it, and with the Air being double the price while only offering improvement in performance (faster CPU and GPU), its not something I need, especially at the expense of battery life. I think the SSD should help make the system feel plenty snappy and I don't have a need for high storage (and a 2.5" external drive is pretty cheap and would be easy enough to slip in with the rest of it).

Gaming isn't even a consideration for me though (I'd game on console or upgrade the desktop, but the only PC game I'm much interested in is Diablo 3 and who knows when it'll be out so it wouldn't make sense to buy with it in mind).

lenovo has some models out with that cpu as well ideapad "u series" (u350 and u450)

Yeah, I'm liking how much competition is starting to heat up in the actually really portable laptop market (newer netbooks with longer than 2-3 hour battery life included). What's great is that things are only going to get better. I actually was thinking, no hold off, there'll be new better ones even this year, let alone early next, but then figured I'd just jump on this, instead of waiting.

Oh, you can now get the 14z from Dell, which is right in line with these and the Lenovo's, although I think you can still get better value from the Acer's.

even toshiba has one but i didn't bother to list it b/c its in the $1000+ range. its one of their business class notebooks (protege)

tried to find something from hp but got nothing. i figure its only a matter of time before they join the fray as well

Asus UL30A review: Text has a Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor that a lot of these others have. only problem is this one is over $700, which makes it more expensive than the timeline

I picked up the Acer 1410 last week (11.6"). Its quite speedy and I got about 6 hours of battery life with moderate usage yesterday, very impressed.

dell has added the option to get a intel culv processor in the Inspiron 11z
(SU4100. 2M Cache, 1.30 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) Text so basically the size of a netbook but with a better processor than the atom

Why no 7200 RPM or SSD drives for either this OR the Timeline? That Timeline would be perfect for what I want if only it had a faster hard-drive.

I have had a timeline 3810t-6775 for a couple months and love it. The 80gb SSD coupled with 4gb abd the dual processor seems to be a real sweet combination. By the way, the S/PDIF output is optical - a 3.5mm optical adapter is needed to access it.😀

here are two more similar ones; gateway EC58 and EC54 Text
for those that don't know acer bought gateway not too long ago, so it might be the same as the timeline with just a few changes
