Alienware puts together great machines, but that's not the problem.....the prices they charge are just unrealistic at best.

OK, because I haven't seen anyone here mention this, I would personally say to anyone wanting to purchase an Alienware, don't. I bought one of their laptops and it was a problem from day one. Gigabit nic was busted right from the get go. Didn't want to send it back right away because I was told it would take 2 months, I had already waited about that long to get it. So I sent it back to fix it about a year later. I sent it back to them in the original packing, which was VERY good packing I must say, and they sent it back with about half that much of peices and parts of packing foam. The lid was scrathed up, luckily it still worked.

Their tech support is very much hit or miss, I tended to miss more than hit though. By the time I call tech support I have already tried everything they are going to ask me to try and in some. So when I tell them all the things I have done, and they STILL make me repeat and rinse, it gets a little annoying. Factor that in with the overpriceing problem and it is a loose loose situation. I personally will never pruchase from them again.

Also if you look in my Sig, that system cost Half what an Alienware of the same specs would have cost.

I own one... I kinda wish I had built mine. Outside of the fact that I've needed a PSU and a Hard Drive replaced, the overpricing is pretty bad. When I had my PSU replaced a couple years ago, tech support was great.. I even had a conversation with the guy about gaming. But lately, when I called tech support for my Hard Drive, they're located in Puerto Rico I believe. There is definately a bit of a language barrier there, and I wish they were in the US.

Anyways- hope that helped.

we will see how great they are, my brother-in-law just purchased a 3000$ Alienware laptop even though I STRONGLY recommend him NOT to. For the 3000$ he got a 17" screen, fastest Pentium M (what a waste of cash), 1 gig ram, 2 60gig HDD's and ONLY a 6800go (he didn't even listen to me when I said to go with a smaller processor and a 7800go for the same price). Way too much money for a desktop replacement laptop that wieghs 13 POUNDS and has crappy battery life. I could have built him a Desktop rig with a 19" lcd thats would have been faster for under 1200$. And he thinks his laptop is gunna whoop up on my rig in games, its gunna be close (XP @ 2.4gig W/ X800XT AIW), but then again I only have 900$ into mine including the monitor.
