I am seriously considering getting of these little cars. My motives have nothing to do with current price of gas in the states (which I don't consider to be outrageous).

I'd love to have a convertable Mini Cooper S :) They look awesome - but for the price, I'd rather take an S2000, or maybe even a used C5 corvette if I was looking at drop tops.........

I am not sure how fast they are. They are ok on gas. Supposedly you can have a supercharger installed on the S model by the dealer that puts engine power over 200Hp which is a bunch for such a little car.

It actually can be pretty competitive. Definately worth it if you use Deez and are serious about putting some work in.

the base is a nice car, but i can't find the reason to buy one with a msrp of almost $17k.

the cooper S i think is a better choice. a lot more power and it looks much better, and it only costs $4k more.

I can't justify the price for a new one either. I have been looking at two year old models though.

I'm getting ready to order a convertible soon. I've test driven them so many times that I feel like I have one now though :) I really like the way they drive. Just make sure you get the S version.

Cool man. I have yet to test drive either model. I know I need to get one with navigation just so I can have the speedo in the right place!

I thought they changed that with the 2005 model. I've only driven the ones with the Nav system, so I'm not sure.

i've read the supercharger is a bad deal... you're better off w/ something else other than what they offer you. but honestly, in a car that small, with it's suspension... the S is more than enough :) Well.. for me. I just need to find a used one that I like, and come into some spare money to pay for it all.

Read the long term test reviews on it by Road and Track and Car and Driver magazines.

IIRC, quick and nimble car but relatively low mileage because no one wanted to take it on long trips because of its uncomfortably harsh ride.

It's got sport suspension...same thing with driving any sports car. Seems like a silly complaint. Like driving a Lincoln Town Car and complaining the steering is too soft

Yes Premium Fuel Only for S-model, not sure about the base!

S-comes standard with the Supercharger and sportier wheels. Problem is the option list ads up quick! Not hard to get a semi Loaded S up to $26K.

John Cooper Works package add HP and other gooodies, over $4K though on top of the S model price!
