Considering buying one. Looks like one of those affordable little luxuries that's a fairly harmless indulgence...

Seems like a waste of money to me. If I wanted an affordable luxury I'd buy a nice set of knives or something, but not a heated towel rack. It's not like people have problems with their towels being cold.

They are about $75-125 when I've seen them in stores.

LOL, not even close, but I appreciate you saying so...

they had them in all the hotels in scotland i stayed in. i thought they were pretty silly and a pretty big waste in a country that's so anal about energy that you have to like set the water heater to stay on for a certain amount of time while you shower. that said, it was summer. maybe winter in scotland makes heated towels more appealing.

Most of the time those towel bars are steampipes, though. It's not like they are spending extra energy for heated bars, they are already piping the steam through the building.

Anyway, after experiencing them in England, I have to say I love them. Your towel is always nice and warm, and they are drier and fresher. You can also use it to dry clothes, and it's nice in the winter to put your clothes on them to warm up before you get dressed.

I got a freestanding one from Bed Bath and Beyond for about $60. Well worth it. It has lasted me 3 years.

They are inexpensive and don't use a whole lot of electricity.

When I move into my house in 6 weeks, I will install a hardwired wall-mounted one in the bathroom ASAP.

Am I the only one who likes cold towels? I like a cold bed too, they feel so good to get into.

People wonder why we never got our 32 hour workweek.... it's because we spend our time worknig extra hours to pay for useless crap like heated towel racks.

Well, when I get out of the shower I wrap a towel around my head for a min ot two after drying off (yes, that would make me a beloved patriot  ) so that be a nifty gadget to consider. :)

useless crap. Along with steam generators in showers... As a son of an electrician who has to install this junk, I think people should think before frivilous spending ensues.

Mine cost $60. I've "frivoulously" spent more than that on alcohol on a good bender!

Is there a technical reason you consider them useless crap?

Would be nice for me in the winter, but just one more thing to worry about malfunctioning and burning the house down.
