Anyone own a 96 or newer Chevy Express (or GMC equiv) (mondo sized van)

redly

My family has outgrown the minivan genre (kids fighting, not enough room to haul junk, multi use vehicle), but we are too damn cheap to fork up for a full sized SUV. Enter the full sized van market.

Curious if anyone here owns a 96 or newer Chevy Express Conversion (or otherwise) van with a 5.7L.

I would assume they are reliable, given the simplicity and commonality of the drivetrain and such. Let me know if I'm wrong

Thanks

<~~ Wants a full-sized SUV but am driving a mid-sized SUV right now... Thinking about trading for a full-sized SUV when my contract with dealership is over.

A friend of mine uses a van for business purposes. He's been in a Dodge Tradesman for more then 25 years. He has rented other vans while his was in the shop and the Chevy was his pick. Though he thought it was butt-ugly he said it had the best ride/handling. The 5.7 is pretty bulletproof and the trans should be perfectly adequate for the task.

I haven't driven the Chevy Express, but I do know that it's the same engine / tranny in the Chevy Trucks. They are solid and very reliable.

Ford Econoline / Club Wagon is a good line of vans, too. Steer clear of the Dodge vans, though. I have 2 friends who have them, and they both have vowed never to buy a Dodge again. The maintenace and reliability are not that great, and they handle horribly in the rain and snow.

I've driven Older Chevy Van (like, early 90's), and found that I didn't like them. Seemingly sluggish, and poor handling (although this could be contributed to it being a fleet vehicle). We have a couple of E350/Clubwagons from Ford at work, and I like these a lot more. Handle better, more get up and go, and less stressing on me (although I don't know why). A place I worked at in the summer had the new Sprinter series vans (the ones they had were from Mercedes), with diesel engines with a turbocharger. Very smooth driving, great sight lines (mirrors and windshield), and lots of get up and go (not as much as the Fords though). Never driven a Chevy "Express" van, but just giving a little information on the rest.
