If you didn't know any better you'd think they were just ordinary aquarium fish.

How much do they cost?

Do they require any special care etc?

Where can you buy them from.

And do you need any kind of license to own them?

These suckers aren't cheap. There's also a list of states where they are legal/illegal to own. Google rocks

Look at his links. And of course they require special care (goto library). No license I believe.

it depends what kind of piranhas you get. Sorry, I must have skipped the questions. There are Red Bellies for sale at my pet store for $6. I dont think they're any harder to care for than ordinary fish. You put them in a tank big enough for them, make sure the water temp stays between 74-78 F, make sure the pH is neutral, and add feeder fish. That's really all there is to it. I don't need a license in my state, but you should check that out before you buy them. I added some links in another post that I wrote earlier. These places will ship to your door. The cheapest piranha I bought was $9, the most expensive one was $40. The price varies, but Red Bellies are probably going to be cheapest. The red belly that is in my gallery I have had for just about a year now, and when I got him he was an inch long. The red bellies grow pretty fast. I have him in a 55 gallon tank, and if I wanted to I could add a few more in there with him. They don't need a super large tank, but don' t crowd them in either. If you have any more questions you can ask away.

I used to own a Snowflake moray eel, was about 24inches long or so. I worked in a petshop for a while, not a chain store, but a privately owned one and had the chance to deal with various poisonous fish. We had varies types of lion fish, a rockfish for a short while, and others. I still have a 75 gallon saltwater tank setup, with a few fish in it, but nothing that is poisonous, or strictly carnivorous. I also still have an empty 55 gallon tank that I am debating about setting backup with African Cichlids. Would love to get some more lamprologus Occelatus(sp?), and a few others. Probably won't set it back up anytime soon though, as I don't currently have a good spot for it.

Wow, I was amazed that Piranhas actually are legal in my state. I may have to look into this as I have a 60 gallon tank already stocked with feeder fish, hehe. ;)

Though its not really a fish, I kept a Mantis Shrimp for a while. I remember sticking a chopstick in there to move some rocks and that sucker cracked it. Pretty scary.

They're illegal in my state, so nope. Only dangerous fish I've had was a Volitan Lionfish. I also had a 30" Mexican Black Line Moray Eel.

Oh I know, those things are BADASS! We have them on the flats down in the Keys. A friend and I were chasing 'cuda on the flats one time, and his Tevas were bothering his feet for some reason. As it was mostly sand and turtle grass we were walking on he took'em off. He stepped either on, or part of, a mantis shrimp and it just nailed him. He screamed and jumped straight up out of the water (it was prolly 3ft deep). He said it felt like someone blew one of his toes off with a .22!

Another time while going after big mangrove snappers, I let my semi-live shrimp dangle in the water while I was waiting for my dad to boat a big ladyfish. This mantis shrimp glides up to it and just annihilated it within a few seconds. I have so much respect for those things.

Never had any piranhas, but an ex of mine, her parents had these 3 gigantic Red Oscars in a cool 7ft tall octagon tank. They kinda look like piranhas, and share a similar temperment at feeding time, just sans the life-threatening teeth I think.
