Anyone order[ing/ed] a Ceton tuner?

Assuming the whole thing wasn't some cruel hoax, we're about a week away from seeing these in the wild.

Anyone taking the plunge? I think I might be tempted when/if a [perhaps 2 tuner] solution that comes in somewhere around $250ish. At that point, it really does make sense to build a full-fledged HTPC vs. a media tank/NAS type solution.

Sorry no, I'm not on that list. I would love to have a cablecard solution, but unless I can use the recordings on other computers, it is useless to me.

I have one on preorder as well, but they were just delayed because of supply problems. Hopefully they're out soon, I'd love to consolidate my movie/tv watching into one device rather than the HTPC/Tivo setup I have right now.

Really? So are some people going to get theirs June 1, just not you guys, or are they all delayed (again)?

What about the Silicon Dust solution? That any closer to a reality?

They're all delayed, they physically can't get the parts they need to finish them.

The SD cable card stuff is still in testing as far as I know, but I don't believe that was expected to be to market until at least the back half of the year.

What I'd really like is for Cablelabs to take off the restriction that all 4 tuners have to go to the same PC, that would be awesome.

So, I guess June 1 wasn't the date. It's now listed as "Mid 2010".

That's really too bad. Anyone have any more info?

This-

I Why you cant use other VMC Pc's as extenders themselves is beyond me. I can use an xbox to share a tuner but not another pc? Retarted...

I have 7 htpcs around the house with tuners in them because I refuse to get that many cable boxes and being able to buy one 4 tuner card and share it with the entire hose would be so sex.......

Not being able to share recorded shows is stupid as hell as well. Maybe Ill just buy 7 refurbed xbox 360s and add them to the tvs where the htpcs are and keep them the way they are.

They open a door for us but erect a wall directly infront of it....

I'll be ordering one once they finish their pre-order shipments. This will probably take 3-6 weeks. I'm also waiting to hear what a few people have to say. Although, I don't expect any issues based on what I've already heard from reviewers.

Yesterday was the day people received them if they ordered from Zones on the 13th, 14th, or early on the 15th but Fluid Digital orders started shipping yesterday and CannonPC received theirs late last night so their shipments didn't go out until today. My order from 3-18 is shipping today although I don't have a tracking number yet and I only selected ground shipping so I won't get it until the middle of next week. At this point I need to figure out if I can pick up a CableCard at the local Comcast office or if I need to schedule a truck to come do something I'm perfectly capable of doing myself.

I'm on the "I would buy one if I could stream the recorded shows to other PCs" boat. If I could record and stream around the house, cable tv would be quite useful.

I don't know if my cable company would have the copy once flag or not. And if they let me stream now, there is no guarantee they wouldn't cut that off at any time. Annoying as hell. Because of this I'm trying to get my wife on board with just canceling cable altogether.

You know that you would be able to do that using 360s, right? Extenders are allowed to play copy once flagged material.

I do know that. But I'm not going to buy a bunch more hardware at this point. Needing to do so to get over arbitrary BS restrictions would piss me off too much. I'd rather vote against cable company's craptacular rules with my wallet by canceling.

It's not the cable company's rules, it's CableLabs' rules. Unfortunately they have to be tasked to protect content because of unscrupulous people that would use the loophole to copy content that does not belong to them and distribute it to others without permission. Ultimately it's the pirates that are to blame and it's those people that are screwing those of us who want to use these systems in a legitimate way.

The request has been made to CableLabs to allow more than one PC to utilize a Ceton tuner. They are considering the request. Much like opening up OCUR tuners this request may take some time to get approval. Hopefully they'll eventually make the proper decision.

imo, the biggest problem is the lack of a decent extender other than the Xbox. Linksys has theirs available at a reasonable price but the performance is lacking in some areas. Now that CableCard tuners are a reality Ceton should also look into making a decent MC extender. Some of the newer SoC processors could do a fine job of that at a reasonable price. It seems that nobody is producing an updated MC extender at the moment though. If the new CableCard tuners create a decent market, a market for a powerful MC extender will naturally follow. Hopefully someone will recognize and fill that vacuum.

I received my InfiniTV 4 yesterday and Comcast just left the house after "installing" the CableCARD and so far it works flawlessly. I'm currently watching NFLHD on my HTPC and I'll try to record 6 channels at a time (Hauppauge 2250 and the InfiniTV 4) shortly. Six tuners is without a doubt excess for me at this point in time but I've got them so I might as well use them. Let me know if you've got any questions.

Does Comcast's card support all 4 tuners? I know some systems might not (just wondering). I believe there is a firmware update coming for the cablecard recorders, as they just allowed the device to record shows DRM-free if there is no copy-once flag set on the show/channel. Let us know how well the recordings are (and their sizes for HD and SD if you get a chance).

The tech brought 2 S-cards and 1 M-card because he didn't know what kind of device he was installing it in. You need to have an M-card since the InfiniTV doesn't support S-cards at all.

I just told my system to record 6 shows ( :D ) without any hiccups. One of them is only SD but the other 5 are HD and my 500GB 7200RPM drive is taking it like a champ. I'll set up a HD channel to record a full hour show although I don't think you'll get the full story from that as I'm pretty sure it matters how much compression the cable company is using in your location.

edit: I need to adjust the tuner priority to record a SD show with the InfiniTV because right now the 2250 has priority. I'll have that information for you around 3.

Alright, here's what I got for sizes. I had to do a bit of math because I record a buffer on each side of shows and they weren't all exactly the same length.

InfiniTV 4
Discovery Channel HD - 5.2GB/hr
Discovery Channel SD - 1.3GB/hr

Hauppauge 2250
Animal Planet SD - 3.4GB/hr

Not bad. That is slightly smaller filesize per hour than the HD-PVR at highest quality. I wonder how they compare in the PQ department.
