My class currently requires a thumb drive and I don't want to just buy any thumb drive, I figure I may as well pick up the Shuffle. Anyone get theirs yet?

Why would you buy the shuffle? AFAIK you are going to need to use iTunes with it...

Main reason is I have to already pick up some type of flash/thumb drive thus I thought it would be nice if I could listen to some music on my way to class etc.

Target had 128MB on sale for about $15. This is an OK price, especially if you are near a Target.

there was a hot deal of a $10 lexar 128mb thumbdrive at best buy awhile ago.

as for a shuffle, it sounds like a really ridiculous product... who needs that when ipod minis already exist? the minis are only $100 more and have much more capacity. of the two new apple products, i'd rather go with the newly unveiled mac mini.

I read Shuttle as well, was thinking "Shouldn't a sff pc question be in GH?" :p That said, I'm also curious why anyone would buy one.. but then I'm curious why anyone would use AOL, how anyone can watch the garbage on TV, etc...

Mine came last week. So far, the screen problem has not bothered me yet; I do not plan on navigating menus while running anyways. And the audio quality is as good a that of a normal ipod. My only complaint are the earbuds. They well...they suck.

For $9 more I would have purchased the Sandisk 512 MB Embedded MP3 Player for $108.29 from Amazon.com
  • 512MB capacity
  • Doubles as a USB flash drive with fast USB 2.0 transfer rates
  • Plays MP3, WMA, and WMA DRM or do you want to be stuck with Apple iTunes only songs?
  • Stores over 4 hours/60 songs of MP3; 8 hours/120 songs of WMA music (Playback at 128 kbps MP3, 64 kbps WMA)
  • Digital FM tuner with 20 preset stations
  • Voice Recorder with built-in microphone
  • Create multiple custom playlists
  • Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port for fast and easy transfer of files
  • Up to 15 hours continuous playback using one AAA battery (included)
  • Indigo backlit multi-line LCD display

Note that this requires a USB cable, and is larger than a Shuffle.

I'm about in the same boat as OP, and I've decided on a Shuffle; It's far from ideal, but it's the closest thing to what I want.
