The special at the demonstration was 49.99 for a 2 week trial period. 🙁

I was kind of disappointed at the display. It was not so much a display of skill as it was entertainment. The boards that they were breaking even had confetti poppers that would make a sound as well as shoot some streamers. I'd prefer something with more of an emphasis on effective offensive striking and defense rather than showy ineffective ones.

In addition I would be paying for services that I would not be using through higher monthly rates(weight room, have free one at my apt complex..and the spa and jacuzzi). There is a local one nearby in a shopping center I will probably be looking into.

Well sadly, flash is what sells memberships.

How much is it per month? I have to pay $65-$85 here for just a dojo, no weights, only one large room and a couple private lesson rooms.

One hundred a month, no private lessons were mentioned from what I read

i forgot to mention this in my first post, but i think the most important step is to actually start taking any class.

like the differenece between someone who has taken no martial arts and someone who has is much much much bigger than the difference between 2 people who have taken different martial arts. the 2 who have can see the "faults" or "strengths" in their particular style. but the uninitiated see nothing.

so if this is the only school in your area i would recommend studying there. and remember that for the first few months, while you are a beginner, there will be a lot of drilling in fundamentals like stance, repetitive punching and kicking, stretching, ie - not the most cool-looking or "fun" stuff. but it is the most important time of your training.

100/month is a good deal for that kind of facility.

My favorite one here is $85...only about 10 hours of training available per week if I make every lesson...facilities are only open to me during those times.

I am forced to choose a dojo and a weight room....cheapest weight room is $24.99 with a 3 year commit....$34.99/$149 down to go for yearly.

That's a good deal in my book....of course if you only want to go a few hours a week, don't need weights, etc...not a good deal.

Private lessons are usually always extra. A work around I have found is afternoon lessons usually are pretty private if the dojo offers them esp when school is in session.

Actually, this one is a 20 minute drive, the nearest place is half a mile, just nowhere near as fancy

do they both offer a trial period? 2 weeks is probably not long enough to get a good feel for the particular style, but it should give you an idea of the instructors.

Haven't contacted the local one yet. I couldn't even tell you what discipline they taught. The only reason I know it is there is because it is 2 stores down from the GNC that I normally shop at. The only time I would have for it is on the weekends anyways. I work full-time M-F 8-5 and have night classes M-Th. I don't see paying 100 bucks a month for weekend classes as a viable solution.

If cost is an object, check out your local YMCA, we have a family membership for $130/3 months, + $30/month for the TKD.

Gives all of the family access to the weights, Racquetball courts, etc...

It's not that, I'd have no problem paying 100 a month if I would be able to use it on weekdays as well, which my schedule does not permit.

wow, i didn't realize that you'd only have the weekends for training. $100/mo is definitely a lot for only weekend workouts. i don't remember what the schedule was like for the school you linked but many places have no classes on sundays, and lighter schedules on saturdays.

if you can't work in an early morning workout during the week then $100/mo is probably too much for your situation.

of course, lots of people pay that amount to be members at clubs they never go to at all 🙂
