Hey all- I was wondering if anyone is overclocking a T-Bird 1.1Ghz? I can only change FSB obviously because I have an MSI K7T Pro... how high will this chip go and at what FSB settings?

PS: I have a Taisol HSF.

Well, try for a 110 FSB first. Probably wont happen, but its worth a try. I'd expect around 105, maybe a little less (My classic 700 went to 770 by fsb, my 700 tbird goes to a 105 fsb stable). You can't get huge gains by a 3-5% fsb increase, but if it works its great. a 1.2ghz chip would rock :)

i've gotten my tbird 800 up to 880 stable (110*8) using only fsb and a standard heatsink/fan setup. i've also tried it at 896 (112*8), but it would crash once in a while. most tbird will be stable up to 110mhz FSB, and few lucky ones will go beyond 110.

Ok, what if it doesnt boot? How do I get the computer back up?

On an old Soyo board I had to hold down 'INSERT' to get the puter back if it wouldnt boot.

And another thing... will upping the FSB produce more heat from the CPU? It reads out at 50C usually under a full load and I don't want to fry the chip.

BUMP

Question:
How do I recover the puter if the FSB is set too high and it will not boot? On my old Soyo board I had to hold down INSERT, what do I do on the MSI K7T Pro?

usually, if the computer is unable to boot at the last fsb speed, it will come back up again at the default speed. at least, that's what my asus a7v does.

Can someone confirm this with the MSI K7T Pro?

Also.. does overclocking the FSB produce extra heat?

just unlock the multiplier and set it to the right ones, i think you have to cut some if they aren't set right. toms has some info. once you get the right bridges set, all you have to do is drop the CPU in and you get 1.2 or whatever out of your 1.1 on a no multiplier changing mobo

Great, thanks guys... I'm not gonna fool with mod'ing the chip itself, though I may fool around withe FSB and see what I can get out of it. Thanks again,
