Looks like Gigabyte has revised the GA-8IHXP. Does anyone know what exactly was revised? I just ordered the GA-8IHXP yesterday from newegg and now the GA-8IHXP has been replaced with the GA-8IHXP2! Should I RMA the GA-8IHXP and order the revised version?

They have it in stock at newegg.com. So far it looks like they changed the on-board audio from Creative 5 channel to Realtek AC97 6 channel. If anyone knows of any other changes let me know.

the other one is refurbished thats why its cheaper. Googlegear price for the 8IHXP(1) is $173 much more expensuve than neweggs price.

Wierd is, its not posted on GIGABYTE's website. can this be a typo???

was about to order one in a few days until I saw this thread

It's not a typo. If you look at the photos of the board newegg.com has, you'll see printed on the board "Rev 2.0". I wish someone could find out exactly what the changes are besided the audio.

Rick, my local Gigabyte dealer confirmed that there really is a revision of the board - which he expects to receive by month-end. He confirmed your observation about the new onboard sound chip, stating that Gigabyte will not be using the Creative chip in any of their future boards. In addition, Gigabyte has also incorporatedd some other minor refinements (specifics not yet available) into the new GA-8IHXP2.

Rick, I am thinking about using this board in my first build and I did notice that Newegg has the GA-8IEXP2 REV 2.0 board for the same price as the original GA-8IEXP. The Newegg "detail spec" for the GA-8IEXP2 shows the new sound chip as the Realtek AC 97, but the IEEE 1394 Via 6306 Firewire Controller chip is missing. Newegg told me that all their spec details come directly from Gigabyte, but revision 2 is not on the Gigabyte site. I am wondering if there is some cost cutting in the new revision or these are technical changes.

Hmm... that's strange. I just looked at my GA-8IHXP, and it was never listed as the 8IHXP2, but it's Rev 2.1, printed right on the board.

And I got this probably six weeks ago. :Q

Which Sound chip is better? Creative or Realtek? I'm now holding out bec of this issues. I know that the 8IHXP is a very promising board, hopefully the cost cutting will not effect the stability and loss of other options. :Q

I just checked out the link and the latest rev is 3! So if you guys are getting rev2.1 does that mean it the 8IHXP1 and the rev3 is the 8IHXP2? Now I'm confused!

The board in question in this discussion is the 8IHXP (which never had Firewire and still doesn't), NOT the 8IEXP (which did and still does have Firewire - in its latest rev)! ;)

Actually, I made a mistake by calling the GA-8IHXP2 rev. 2.0. It's actually rev. 3.0 and this is printed on the board.

Hi

Does anybody know if the GA-8IHXP2 that NewEgg are selling definitely is the new version with Realtek 6-channel audio (as opposed to the older version with Creative CT5880)? Has anyone got it from NewEgg?

I want to get this board, but I need the ALC650 6-channel audio since I'm not getting a separate sound card.

I emailed NewEgg on Sunday to see if they could confirm that the boards they sell are definitely the new version. I haven't gotten a reply yet, so I called them today.

The person I talked to didn't seem familiar with the boards - she went to ask someone else and came back saying that no, the board they sell does not have 6-channel audio, but I'm pretty skeptical that she really checked this out.
:frown:

Anybody able to allay my fears?

I have to order this board ASAP, cause my friend is bringing it back to Ireland for me in 10 days. If I can't get a straight answer from NewEgg, I'll have to get the Asus P4T533-C instead.

mrKH,

I know the GA-8IHXP2 (Revision 3.0) that newegg is selling has Realtek six channel sound and not Creative. I had both boards and the old version used Creative and the new one now uses Realtek 6 channel.

Thanks Rick.

Thats a bit reassuring. I'm just afraid Newegg might have a few of the old version boards to get rid of, and they might ship them at random instead of the new ones.

Normally it'd be ok and you could RMA it, but if I have to do that, It'll miss its flight to Ireland :)

Update 10/3/2002

Called NewEgg again this morning.

mrKH> Can I talk to someone who knows the technical specifications of your motherboards
salesRep> No, sorry. We don't have anyone who knows that.

mrKH> Ok, then I want to know whether the Gigabyte GA-8IHXP you stock is the new version with 6-channel audio, or the old one without?
salesRep> I'm sorry, we don't provide that information, please check with the manufacturer.

mrKH> But if I check with the manufacturer, they will just tell me they have two versions of that board - how are they going to tell me which one you have in stock??
salesRep> I'm sorry, I can't give you that information. But if you do get the wrong board, we'll give you a full refund.

mrKH> But I don't want to have to RMA the board. Surely you can ask the guys who actually ship the orders to check whats written on the box? [The box for the 8IHXP2 has a "6-channel audio" sticker on it.]
salesRep> No, sorry. We can't contact our warehouse.

mrKH> Can I contact your warehouse directly?
salesRep> No, sorry. You can't do that.

mrKH> Ok, then I suggest for future customers you find out this information from your warehouse.
salesRep> Ok, I'll pass on your suggestion.

I hope they will do this, but I doubt it. I'm going to lodge a complaint on NewEggs website and see if I get any satisfaction.

mrKH, Don't worry, you'll get the new revised board with the Realtek 6 channel audio. I order from newegg the day they posted the new revised board on their site and that's exactly what I received. I would think if they still had some of the old ones laying around I would have received one but I didn't.
