Nutdotnet's VW, Skoorb's Nissan, and some others lately have all had problems. However, the only problem I've seen someone mention with a domestic car is a leaky convertible top.

Yet, we continue to have this bashing of American reliability and build quality. Can someone please explain this to me? Or, if you can't explain it, could we stop with the unwarranted American car bashing?

Maybe because nobody or close to nobody has American car's because they are so unreliable they got rid of them long ago. My dad used to own an oldsmobile that lasted us like 14 years with 160 or 170k miles before we junked it.

Of course, an easy possible solution to this is that more people on these message boards own imports than domestic cars.

I'm not saying that it's true, just that it's possible. If, hypothetically, 98% of people own imports and 2% own domestics, then clearly there will be a lot more problems reported with imports than domestics.

I think many of the cars posted with problems are 10+ years old and have well over 100,000 miles on them.

General wear and tear and time play a factor in ANY car's durability.

Lets see if we can break it down for the stupid...

-many folks here are younger
-imports are popular among younger folks
-younger folks (teenagers) often dont know how to fix their own cars an an older adult might
-Imports are more and more popular in general in the US, I wouldnt be surprised if they have surpassed domestic cars
-Many "imports" are not imports but rather made in the USA
-you are retarded for basing this post on two examples
-all the domestics are currently waiting to be Found On Road Dead.

Take a little of your own advice bud. IMHO, the Ford Ranger and Escort have the lowest TCO of any vehicle in their respective classes in the last 20 years.

I won't even bother responding since most people have explained the errors in your hypothesis quite well. :)

Chill. ;) Just giving him some of his own medicine. :) I know that some domestics are very reliable. :) However, my personal experiences with ford/mecury (town car, explorer, mountaineer, rental escort) is very very bad.

Well it's a 93 with 143,000 miles on it. I bought it used (inherting other's problems...), and I had to spend only $350 at a nissan dealership to iron out the kinks which were pretty minor: Outer cv boots worn and front cranksaft seal. Sure beats the dead fuel pump on my friend's brand new ford windstar going, or the radiator totally dying (plus ABS system dead) in my friend's 95 cavalier that has around 100,000 kilometers on it (~65,000 miles).

american car cannot compete with japanese, they dont care if it break down in a short period of time. they are poorly build, poorly designed. look nice on the outside is all. but when you open the hood and look inside, it's a huge mess. it a proven fact, no one is bashing it but if they want people to be satisfy they have to meet all of this demand. it doesnt matter where the car is made, you would even buy a car from an alien off another planet would you? that will never break down on you and uses fuel much more efficient and very quiet. the biggest mistake is buying american car in the first for most people a long time ago say 10-15 years, we thought that doing so would improve our economy but we are screwed at the same time having to take our car to the auto repair shop repeatedly which actually cost alot more in the long run. with this frustration most sell it for a little less and get a japanese made instead like honda, toyota. lexus, mitsubishi etc.

74' Chevy Blazer. The best vehicle and only vehicle I've owned. The reliability and miles on this truck are insane. I only wish they still made trucks this way.

The majority of computer geeks don't full sized trucks... I drive a 96 Chevy K1500 Ext. cab pickup.

It has to do with the size of your penis.... really it does! The smaller your car, the smaller your penis! REALLY!!! :D

You gotta feel for the guys who drive Geo Metros....
