I have mostly had the cars that not everyone else did. I have noticed on more than one occasion, I could literally be pulling in right behind a 6 figure vehicle (I live in Palm Beach County so it's not uncommon) and yet my car gets the looks and what not.
We had a company party at the Breaker's hotel last night and there was a large tailed Porsche of some sort right in front of me in the valet line, yet quite a few of the guys came over to look at my 1998 240SX SX (it's in basically brand new condition)....my wife was impressed that a 'silvia, which is hardly an expensive car in Japan' got so much attention over a near exotic. On return of the car another valet commented 'man that's really tight'. 🙂
My 1966 GT probably got the most attention of any car I have owned...that car was a fully restored to all NOS or better parts. I spent most of one summer just painting every bolt head and polishing the screws (stainless).
Anyways...it seems around here anyway it's not how much the car cost, but how little you see it.
I would imagine though that a Yugo Cabriolet may be the exception to this.
